  • 3.42 good deal?

My dad knows a rear end specialist who will hook me up w/ 3.42s installed for $400. Is that a pretty good price? Also, I noticed alot of you guys have 3.42s. WHat kind of a difference did it make to your cars? Worth getting? Thx

That's not a good deal..gears plus install = $400? Maybe if he threw in a posi for that price, it would be more reasonable.

The difference it makes on your car depends on your stock gears. If you go from 3.23 to 3.42 you will most likely not feel much of a difference. 3.08 to 3.42 you will notice. Open differential to lsd you will notice a difference.

What brand gears would he be installing?

First of all, what kind of car do you have, auto or 5 speed? and what gear do you have in it already? If you have an automatic, it should be 3.08, changing that to a 3.42 would make a huge difference, .6 sec in a 1/4 mile faster, but if I were you, I would go with 3.73 gears and get low end torque similar to a z28. $400 sounds like a good deal for the whole thing including the LSD. Good luck man.

I believe the manuals only had the 3.08's ..Automatic should have 3.23 unless you have the Y87 package.

All 3.4s have 3.23, no matter if its auto or manual, but 3.8s should have 3.08 on autos(except Y87) and 3.23 on manuals.
