Do any of you use the heel to toe double clutch downshifting method? If so yet me know, if not and want to know now check tthis out at www.driversedge.com/dblcltch.htm .It helps with faster downshifting whether your on the road or on a track. Know that RPMs are going to be different between the BMW and our cars. :D

I've tried a couple times...it ended badly ;)
Can't seem to get the right amount of pressure on the brakes. I usually hit them too hard and scare the hell out of myself!

I drive a manual transmission on my Dad's 87 Corolla and I practice double clutching. I don't do what that article says (shift into neutral, then rev, then push the clutch back in, then downshift) I just rev the engine as I am releasing the clutch to match the downshift RPMs and the car does not buck back and forth when done right... in fact it can be a very smooth transition into gears. I hope it's still as safe as doing that extra step (shifting INTO neutral and then downshifting)

Only problem is that I sometimes take my eyes off the road for too long because I am looking at the RPM's and trying to match them perfectly

cool,guys
I learned it when I went to the Skip Barber Racing school. Liquid Silver I started doing the same thing you do when I was at the school and found that if you got a high enough blip(gas pedal) that you dont need to go into neutral.
thanks for your input.

Also if you pull it into neutral without the clutch then it gives the same result as double clutching but much quicker! ;)

The throttle has to be just right when pulling out of gear without the clutch. Otherwise, you'll hear some nasty clunking sound which isn't good! ;) I learned to float (not use the clutch) the gears on some big rigs (13 speed Macs, 10 speed Internationals + Kenworths) and it's pretty much the same concept. Maintain a certain throttle position when pulling out of gear to keep syncros matched with tranny speed, adjust throttle position, and upshift! But in this racing downshift case.... maintain that throttle position, shift into neutral, rev it up, clutch it, and downshift! ;) :D

Easy as pie! :D I do it everyday, all day long! It takes a little practice to get the shifting into neutral (without clutch) thing down right without hearing your dog teeth being worn down! ;)

Double clutchin in everyday driving seems to be a waste to me, but Heel and Toe is very effective in road racing from what i hear. I have never road raced before, but after i learned about heel and toe, i tried it a few times and I definately need A LOT more practice!

double clutching is a waste of time. down shift, get the revs up, then dump out the clutch. double clutching is for your 1940 fords, before the sequential manual transmissions.
