I have the stock open differential and I read some people buy the LSD from SLP. The question I have is: What type of shop should I take it to get installed and how much it would be. That and do I need any other parts or just the differential from SLP?
Oh yeah...any downsides to installing a limited slip differential? Thanks guys!
Just order the $99 carrier. If any bearings are needed, the shop will provide them.
Look for a transmission, axle, clutch, transfer case, etc shop.
Expect cost of JUST LSD to not be too bad. I had 3.23s taken out, replaced with 3.42s and LSD installed for about $290.
Any downsides? Not that I know of!

you'll need the lsd, new gasket, oil and GM lsd additive. not really that hard to do yourself, if you have tools, and you know how to turn them it's very easy. my friend and i did it and it's very easy. i havn't done much carwork, and this is the most involved thing he's done, and we did good.

If your car came stock with 2.73 or 3.08 gears then you have a two-series carrier; if your car came stock with 3.23 or 3.42 gears then you have a three-series. If you plan to use 3.73, 4.10, or even higher gears, you'll need a three-series.
Basically that means you won't be able to use the SLP Z T Differential without changing your carrier type.

Okay, you'll have to excuse me for being repetitive, I just want to get it all right. I have a 3.73 gear set from Richmond in the car. So I am good to go for getting all the bits for the Limited Slip?
I just discovered that my bird has the
Y87 package the other day. I was looking
at the side of my door and it says Y87.
Then I went to a website to check out all
the codes and I also discovered that I have
GU6 (3.42 gears) and G80 (LSD)or the rear end
of the Trans Am and suspension package. I was jumping to the roof when i saw that.

Went ahead and moved my starter wire from the back, to the front again since it had no effect on my drain on the battery. Also made me nervous driving...
