  • Code P1807 and the crap that comes with it... HELP!!

Ok, well I have thrown a code, p1807 which has somthing to do with the tranny and the torque converter in particular. Well, sometimes right after the light comes on I come to a stop and when I get going again, from 1-2 the shift is damn hard.. like I am gettting hit frm behind. 2-3 and 3-4 are harder but not as bad. The 1-2 is the hardest when here is no acceleration just a little throttle. It seems to be happening most after a medium distancedrive on the interstate or on a hot day. I know my car is under warranty, and I have talked to a guy about it, but what exactly can the dealer do?? Will i get a new tranny or will they just change the fluid and pour some sawdust in there?? Has anyone else had this problem?? I need some further info... thanks!

I had the same exact problem. Tranny was slipping. I use the word slipping in general. There are so many parts there and only takes one to wear out and cause a bad tranny. My code said that the 3-4 clutch pack was bad. A common problem with 4L60E. Unfortunately there is only one kind of tranny rebuilt. Whether one little band is worn out or you've completely destroyed it, you pay the same labor.

My symptoms were exactly like yours. What I did was either stop the car for a min(actually turn it off) or put it in second gear start(if you're stuck in traffic and have to constantly do the 1-2 shift). Stopping it either cooled it down a bit or reset something cause it didn't do it after. Try getting a trans cooler and see if simply running it cooler will help the problem.

I recently had a rebuit done and it's amazing what a good tranny feels like. I drove 70K miles since I got my car and it was slipping since day 1.

Have the dealer rebuild it while it's under warranty. Don't take any other option. Putting saw dust in it will fix it for a few days and they ruin the tranny even more. Don't ever do that. I doubt the dealer will do that.

Before you rebuild it, you should lookinto having the pulse valve replaced, if it is shifting as hard as you say you may just have to have the valve body bored and resleaved where the pulse valve goes in, and buy a new (improved) pulse valve, all of this costs less than $100 if you do most of the work your self, all you have to do is pull the pan and the valve body, take it to a tranny shop, tell them to fix the 4L60E pulse valve problem which sets the p1870 code, and they'll do the rest for like 60 to 80 bucks including the part. My tranny shop wanted 25 for the labor to bore the cylindar an 35 for the replacment valve and sleeve. I would suggest doing this before you have the tranny rebuild it could save you 100's of dollars, if you call around you'll find this is a very common problem with our trannys. hope this helps.

I've got the same code (1870) and symptoms, a 1-2 shift that hits like a ton of bricks.

Justin what pulse valve did you get?
Thanks for the great info, I was really worried I needed a new tranny.

        thanks

i just bought the transgo small shift kit (it includes the valve) however if you go to any tranny shop and tell them that you are having that problem they should know which valve it is. ask a couple shops, about 3 out of 5 knew exactly what i was talking about here.
