• Vette Servo.

WEll i was talking to one of the other techs at my dealership today and i got to talking about the corvette servo. He works on NOTHING but transmissions all day. He specializes in that and he also does the most F body related transmissions in the whole dealership. Well anyhow he told me that changing out the servo isnt going to do ANYTHING but apply more pressure to the bands which really isnt gonna help us out. Further he told me that if i wanted to make the shifts firmer i could switch to a corvette Accumulator? (i think thats what its called) he said the part wouldnt cost all that much probably just as much as the vette servo. He said if i did that it would DEFINATELY chirp the tires from 1st to 2nd gear and COULD possibly do it from the 2nd to 3rd shift. I asked him about a transgo and he said if i did what he told me and put in the transgo the tranny would shift EXTREMELY firm even on the 2nd setting for the transgo. He loved the idea of me modding my 3.8 he said they have ALOT of potential. Just thought you guys might wanna here about the accumulator or whatever its called. ill find out for sure what the part number is and cost on monday.

i was just in my tranny last night, i installed a transgo shift kit, (lots of work) anyway, the accumulator is inside the pan it can be accessed very easily, my question is if you replace our stock accumulator with the vett one, do you also have to replace the spring on top of the plate that is above the accumulator? if so this would make the mod just as much work as a transgo shift kit, because you'd have to pull the whole vavle body and plate. Anyway, it sounds reasonable if you do it deffinatly post your thoughts on it. My shift kit is in and running good, i'm getting ready to go out and see if i have any leaks. I hope not! Later.

I did a Transgo and Vette servo a couple weeks ago. Every day it gets better. My tires spin at the 1/2 shift easily at WOT, but it's a lot of work. I work at a dealership, so the install was much easier on the hoist. If you aren't comfortable with removing the valve body from your tranny, have it done in a shop. I think they charge for 3 hours labor, around 180 for the install. It took me around 3 hours to do. The servo is easy, but you have to lower the tranny to get the cover off. Make sure you get the bolts in the valve body right, or else your tranny will lock. It's not that hard, it just takes a lot of time. Buy a ton of brake parts cleaner, and some vaseline to hold the balls in place. Also, while you are in there, buy a new tranny filter and service the tranny.

I was under the impression that you change the spring too. In fact i think it had ALOT to do with that spring. the spring outta the vette is STIFFER than ours. I think im gonna do the Servo the Accumulator and a Transgo on the 2nd setting. Im thinking even though its on the 2nd setting that thing is gonna shift hard as a mofo. If itll chirp tires with JUST the accumulator...it should lay some rubber with a transgo. So says the guy i work with

I can't remember off the top of my head, but I think that trans-go has a stiffer spring that goes into the accumulator. I'll check next weekend if I find the instructions.

yes the transgo has stiffer springs in the accumulator and above the plate.

So a vette accumulator wouldnt be any stiffer than the transgo? I know nothing about transmissions so thats why i tossed this topic in.

i was told not to mess with the accumulator too much, becasue it can mess up the gears inside the tranny, something about the 2-3 shift having too much torque, becasue the accumulator controls your 2-3 shift.

Is there any instruction on how to install the vette servo and trango shift kit. Would it be a good idea to do it while i install a torque convertor?

Shift kit is very good idea to install when getting a high stall TC. Your shifts will be very soft with the high stall TC. Shift kit will fix that.

instructions come with the shift kit, and it's not all that hard unless you do it in the car and you have to lay on your back all the time.
