  • Disc to Drum and shoe "conversion" ?

I did a search and I couldn't find any information that specifically addressed this, so here goes... I just bought a 3.42 posi rear from a 95 TA M6 without backing plates, calipers or rotors. Would it be possible to use my current drum and shoe brakes on the new rear? If so, will I need to buy a new parking brake cable anyway?

The reason I say this is because I got the rear really cheap and I am fairly happy with my brakes already... so if I install it myself and I can use my old brakes it will be an extremely inexpensive rear end swap.

Has anyone ever tried this? Or should I just buy all the parts and stop asking silly questions?

You can do the swap sure... but I believe you have to pull the axles out to remove the backing plate.

To remove the axles you have to unbolt the diff cover and unclip them.

Your best bet, find a salvage yard and get the backing plates, calipers, etc. Not need in wasting all that time just for drums. Q? Why didn't it come with backing plates?
