  • trans cooler install and overheating

i recently installed a b&m cooler. i didnt do it "dope" style but elected to put some brackets on the air dam. this keeps the cooler in the air flow but away from the radiator. i also have the ftra so i was concerned about blocking too much of the radiator.

no, it hasnt overheated. it has been fairly hot (~95) and i was sitting in traffic for about 2 hours w/ the a/c going. but the gauge did look hotter than normal (of course, likely due to running the a/c and new cooler). the trans is definitely cooler, passengers dont ask about the space heater in the middle of the car anymore.

but damn, does that cooler put out the heat. so much so that i am thinking about mounting it dope style. would that get much air flow? w/o the fans behind it wouldnt get much flow sitting still? the alternative is mounting where there is some space and putting a fan on the cooler. opinions?

do u have a upgraded radiator? Getting one might remedy your excess heat probs. Also, Ram air hoods w/ heat extractors help cooling somewhat as well. it'll let the hear rise from the exhaust manifolds and escape b4 it can really effect cooling in the front of the car, or intake temps.

Also, be sure that the tranny oil supply goes through the oil cooler int he radiator, THEN through the other oil cooler. This might help too, unless ur setup like that already.

nope just the stock radiator. i dont think 'blocking' the radiator with the cooler causes overheating--the cooler just dumps so much heat. i suppose a better radiator would help. a seperate fan would be a bit cheaper though.

yeah its after the radiator's cooler. its inserted inline with what appears to be a spring clip connection on one of the cooler lines (for flushing the transmission via machine i imagine). this seems to be after the radiator's cooler.

At the end of Part Three, we changed the valvetrain of the 3.8-liter V6 in the Tom Henry RS. We installed new, Yella Terra "Ultralite" 1.8:1, aluminum roller rocker arms, Katech valve springs and Katech titanium retainers on our 3800 Series II V6.
Ultralites are nearly 25% lighter than the stock 1.6 rockers and 8% lighter than the SLP aluminum...
