  • A4 hitting the rev limiter.. need to fix!

lately my tranny has been acting weird. if i punch it off the line the rev limiter will starting hitting a my car won't shift to 2nd until i let off the throttle. as soon as i let off the throttle it shifts perfect. but when the pedal is to the floor the limiter will hit. this is only on the 1-2 shift.. is there a way to reset the comp to fix this. anyone else ever have this problem.. need help asap

That is weird. When I put my 'Bird into 1st, it will automatically shift into 2nd when I hit 5500 RPMs.

VSS might be going wack or your trans is slipping. Try resetting the PCM. It actually worked for me. I had some low voltage problem causing all kinds of things to not work properly. After I fixed it I was hitting the rev limiter like you are now. I reset the pcm and did 2 drive cycles. It was still hitting right after the reset. Second time it fixed itself. I don't know if it was related. Just worth a shot I guess.

i hope that my tranny doesn't need a rebuild. it's only got 57,000 miles on it. this doesn't happened all the time. i think my comp is acting up. i'm going to reset to the comp tommorow and see how things go..

It's a long shot as I said. I had a loose wire to the alternator. Fixed it and it still hit the rev limiter. I reset the PCM. Two drive cycles means that I drove after I reset the PCM and stopped. Let the car cool and drove again. Could have been just a huge coincedence though.

To add to what Dom said, I think a single drive cycle is about 75 miles.

Mine does it once in a while. Probably five times since I've had it (four years). It hits it on the 2-3 shift. Sometimes long enough for me to realize what its doing, and to let off the gas a little...

Not a hard hit like when I manually held it down in 1st too long (twice... in four years...). Just a little bounce off the limiter.
