  • Is my diff about to grenade?

Whenever I'm driving, I can hear some brushing sounds from the rear. If I am in gear and applying gas, it gets a bit louder, although while in neutral coasting to a stop the brushing sound can still be heard. It seems to be dependent on rpms...

Sounds like the rear end is going, I would check your pinion nut to see if its backed out, might need to re TQ it to spec.

define brushing? like a piece of metal is spinning and something is touching it? where is it coming from? my tranny tailshaft is making that noise? I think I cracked my tailshaft...maybe you're in the same boat?

Brushing...like a stiff brush over metal sound.

I did have the diff fluid changed out about 500 miles ago, noise started after that. Makes me wonder about how good a job they did.

My guess is the pinion bearing. Mine is making the same noise.

Did you isolate where the noise is coming from? put it on a hoist or stands, and find out where the noise is coming from...sounds very similar to the sound coming from my tailshaft...
