My base model 1997 V6 Camaro convertible has 3.08 gears in it, no posi and it has drum brakes. Soooooooo, I'm thinking I might like to swap in an axle that has better gears (like 3.42s), a posi and is quipped with disc brakes. First off, will any forth gen axle swap in place of the 97 axle? Ay years better than another or should be avoided? Since going from disc/drum to disc/disc, do you need to change anything like the master cyl or the proportioning valve or anything? Anything else I'm missing (besides the speedo being off)? I've done axle swaps before, just not in anything this new.
you will need the backing plates for the brakes, so try to buy an axel with them.
Im assuming you dont have TCS or any kind of traction control? if so make sure the rear is a 3 channel rear end.
nope, get 3 channel then, pretty much it means it only has abs hook up. It doesnt have individual sensors at each wheel to control the traction control system. Your car doesnt have it, so just get a 3 channel rear end, with backing plates for the brake calipers (i think theyre called brake backing plates)
There just rear mounting backing plates, You might need shims if you just do the back breaks. Theres a write-up on doing the back breaks and everything you need ,like parking break cables etc.

Went ahead and moved my starter wire from the back, to the front again since it had no effect on my drain on the battery. Also made me nervous driving...
