  • AutoX for the first time today!

I finally did it. I attended an all day Autox SCCA solo school today. Tons of seat time, it was an absolute blast! I loved it an cannot wait to do it again. A new GTO and myself were the only traditional RWD cars. He and I ran about the same times. The EVOs and WRX STIs were fast.

Car: It was cold, pouring rain so traction was tough. I had my shocks too tight which did not help. The new suspension handled very well, but on the tight turns it wanted to understeer. I think we some attention to what's going on, I can dial the handling in.

Driver: I did well in the offsets and slalom. In the slalom, I had smooth transitions and drove the car with the throttle. I was finally getting the hang of the decreasing radius turns. However, put all together and timed, I absolutely overdrove the car. In my quest for a better time, I made it worse. I also sucked at looking down course to plan ahead.

On my very last run, I crossed the finish line sideways! Nothing like driving on the brink in the rain! Anyone who loves car HAS to try it! I will post pics soon.

Wow... that sounds like a blast. Definitely wanna see pictures. How is this set up so that you don't run the risk of totaling your car?

Wide open parking lot with road cones denoting where to go. One car at a time on the track, and you are timed. The course is very technical - slaloms and switch backs. I never left second gear. Your setup would be great for it.

The more experienced drivers, the EVOs, and WRX STIs ran the course in about 35 seconds. My runs were about 3.5 seconds slower than that.

Oh, that would be big fun. I wonder if we have something like that here. What does that cost?

The SCCA is nation wide but broken up into regions. This particular event was $75 for members and $105 for non-members. Find the SCCA club nearest you and check their web site for something similar. Now that I have some seat time, I will probably go to an event where everything is timed and points are awarded. I will probably finish last in my class, but I don't care. :)

hahaha, yes, it does exist. I just don't take that many pics because Kristen will make fun of my rims. :(

Did you check out the vid? Should give you an idea of how it goes.

"you have to drive slow to be fast" thats expensive, its only $25 for nonmembers in toledo. keep up the good work, it gets fun when you start to beat some of the v8 cars and s2000

$25 for an all day class? that's a great deal. I think the races here are $35.

do you have a stick or auto? yeah i noticed that our cars are kinda bad because of understeer... the only way to avoid it is to slow down, do a little feint.... or ebrake the damn thing.... then put hydraulic ebrakes on your car...

Horsepower is how fast you hit the Minivan... Torque is how far you take the Minivan with you... :wavey:

                          manual.

You will find this interesting. A guy who also drifts was in my class. He fought with the instructors ALL day about the fastest way to take a corner. This guy kept saying drifting was better. The instructors disagreed. I will say he was dangerous (speeding in the paddock), but he had incredible car control.

drifting is not always the fastest around the corner unless your doing a 4 wheel drift like evo's and STi's do in rally... but its the most high adrenaline though.... ^_^

I seriously wanna take the Bone though one of these. I've been testing my new suspension the last few days and I'm getting tenacious control.
