  • Y87 1/4 mile

i did a search and couldn't find anything, but i apologize if this has already been discussed...

I've got a 96 RS Y87....I'd assume it's quarter mile would be quicker than a non-Y87 b/c 3.42 gears w/ LSD but is the difference anything significant?

my friends girlfriend at school has a 1996 Rs Y87 fully loaded.. and we went @ it when i was sstock with 342's, and just an aluminum ds.. both automatic and i took my friend who drove her car by a nose.. so basically what im trying to tell u is... statistics arent always precise.. some cars are kept up better than others.. e/t times vary.. :)

I have heard of people with stock or just intake/exhaust Y87s run anywhere from 15.1 to 15.8. I think the 00+ cars tend to run a little better, but probably 15.5 or so is around average.

The biggest factor is practice and DA

If you're at a good track you should easily get a low 15 with a little practice.

low 15's would be nice...can't wait til spring to find out

                        Re: Y87 1/4 mile

All V6 cars get a one-piece steel driveshaft to replace the two piece steel unit used in earlier years. There is a bulletin out warning that excessive speeds (excess of 125 mph) can cause the tail shaft extension seal to vibrate out and allow all of the transmission fluid to leak out

At the end of Part Three, we changed the valvetrain of the 3.8-liter V6 in the Tom Henry RS. We installed new, Yella Terra "Ultralite" 1.8:1, aluminum roller rocker arms, Katech valve springs and Katech titanium retainers on our 3800 Series II V6.
Ultralites are nearly 25% lighter than the stock 1.6 rockers and 8% lighter than the SLP aluminum...
