  • Autocrossed for the first time!!

Well, yesterday my college car club hosted an autocross. Naturally, I decided to run my car and see how it/I could do in the course.

I was running with a stock 180,000 miles suspension. This made running the course VERY fun. Basically whenever I hit the gas, my tires (or tire, as it were :P ) would start spinning. Between all my tire screeching and my very raspy, loud header-back exhaust, my car made for a pretty noisy entrant, lol.

What really surprised me was how competitive my car and I were in this contest. The 'maro and I were running better times than a modified Cobra, a turbo WRX, a C5, an S2000, and a Porsche 944 turbo!

Apparently I wasn't the only person impressed with how the Camaro did. I got a lot of positive comments on how nimble it was. This is pushing me more and more towards getting bilstein shocks and springs--as far as I've heard, that would greatly improve my low speed handling.

Here's a link to some pics of the event on my Cardomain:

But here's a couple of my favorite pics:

Pretty sweet! I'd like to see how nimble my car is one day.

    One day. Maybe.

      Body roll much? j/k

Looks like it was fun. Was this actually in a school parking lot? If so that's pretty sweet the school let you do that. You might as well join the scca now because it just too damn addicitve.

How does a stock miata not pummel a stock grand am? Sounds like there were some questionable drivers. Looks like you improved over your runs and didn't kill too many cones though. So, good job!

Yeah, this was in the parking lot of our main auditorium here on campus. We weren't sure what they would think of the idea, but the administration really didn't mind.

Oh, and that Grand Am GT was not stock hehe...The times list is actually incorrect; he was in the STX class along with me; he actually won, beating me out of first place in class with the very last run of the day... He had intake, ram air, exhaust, springs, and shocks. He was a pretty good driver

Nice driving! Good to come in with better times than some cars which should beat yours.

Now that you're hooked I'm sure we'll be seeing lots of you in the $uspension forum$ ;)

I have heard the v6 f-body makes such a good autox car because of the balance. The v8 puts more weight over the front tires. Since the v6 sits farther back, it balances the car well.

            cool pics.

A bigger front sway bar will help a lot too. I like the Strano hollow 35mm front bar.

              Shocks definitely.
