  • Launch suggestions?

I have a lt1 but launching is the same. I ran a 9.5 on the 1/8th mile this weekend witch is not good. The problem is I did not stall it and I could not give it full throttle at the beggining...More than half from take off would spin the tires to much.

What would be a good rpm to launch at?
What would the recommend tire pressure be?

I had 39-40 pounds in the back...I think this combined with my inexperience at the track cause me to run these low times.

    Any suggstions would be apreciated.

    Re: Launch suggestions?

    28 psi rear tires.

Hell, 33 psi max for normal driving on the street.

As for launch rpm.... try idle..... then next pass try 1200.... then next pass try 1500... and so on.

    Practice is key.

Read up in here.... lots of good things to learn

      Re: Launch suggestions?

Thanks..I cant wait to get back to the track with lower tire preassure maybe that will catch traction. It was making me so mad...anything above half throttle from launch was spinning...the first run I ran a 12 because I spun so bad....my car has the power...I just got to get it to the ground.

yeah I will be definatly be hanging around these boards...the knowledge of the people here is spectacular.

Drag racing is deffinatly my new hobby.....I cant wait until I get my machinest job....then the Ole lt1 is having alittle construction done to it...probrably going to try and find a cheap v6 to play with to...just no my daily driver....gas is killing me.

Sorry for the long post...but storms are coming and I cant sleep.

        Re: Launch suggestions?

see i told ya yesterday about all this stuff :D

the best ive found so far (with my car of course, each is different) is around 900-1100 rpm stall then let it rip. i think that along with the lower psi will improve your times.

just keep at it you'll get it down. :)

          Re: Launch suggestions?

LT1's are tricky because of all their low end tq.

They don't have the top end of an ls1.... but tons of low end grunt.

          Practice! :)

            Re: Launch suggestions?

very true. but that top end isnt anything that cant be taken care of with a nice head/cam combo. :D

it took me a few track trips before i found the sweet spot for launching the T/A. i went from 2.4 60s to 2.0-1.9s once i found the right rpms.

                Re: Launch suggestions?

Its not like LT1s fall on their face up top though, they have a very respectable upper pull. Pulling 14 flat @ 98-100 stock isn't bad at all

If you are going to make drag racing a hobby, invest in stickier tires and practice launching with those. ET streets or at least DR's to start will be much better than street tires.

                    Comparing LS1 to LT1's.....

LT1's are first 1/8th mile cars
LS1's are second 1/8th mile cars
