  • Road racing yesterday - the good, bad, and ugly

Free track day at Firebird East for ProAutoSports members. Good turnout, they had to split the street car groups in half to give everyone a little more space on the track.

All the suspension work over the summer paid off - car was balanced perfectly, I could feel nice progressive slip angles at both ends in corners, and ultimate traction was much improved over the setup back in the spring. Good entry onto the straight had me pushing 90-95. For comparison, I rode along with a Z06 on Victoracers that would hit 100-105.

Consistently passed in each of my sessions:
    2 newer M3's
a new Z4 (I was surrounded by Bimmers!)
    C5
    Cobra replicar
    Carrera 2
    Boxster
    Bondostangs (2 '95ish Bondourant GTs)

Usually got passed by a Boxster S, 2 STI's, and an SRT-4 in the group. Most all of my group was on street tires.

After my last (4th) session, the clutch started feeling weird when I pulled into the pits at the end. Lost it completely back in town - pedal to the floor without any resistance or disengagement. Checked the fluid reservoir, and it's empty - probably a leak in the line somewhere. Extended warranty people towed it to the dealer, hope to get it back soon.

Yeah, had a blast. Already signed up for the next event Halloween weekend.

Car update: Dealer honored the extended warranty, and replaced both the master and slave clutch cylinders. Opened up the gearbox to check for more damage, nothing found, and clutch plate is still good (amazing to me considering the way I drive). Free tow, repairs, and rental car till I got it back. Feels great now.
