They taught me how to drive my Bird so hard I opened up a hole in the exhaust :D

Seriously, it was a pinhole leak in the morning, and driving home I was worried my I pipe was split in half.

They worked on smoothing my inputs big time, and got me braking a little sooner so the car was much more settled in the corner. Also worked on recovering from errors better, like what to do when you're coming in too hot and need to drop off the best line for a second.

My first 3 runs to benchmark topped at 38.6, and I was around there all morning while working out my bad driving habits.
The instructors turned around 36.5 during the day.
My last 3 runs were 38.1, 37.8, 37.2

So, for $200, I took 1.5 seconds off my lap times. Goes to show that upgrading the nut behind the wheel is the most cost effective mod there is

Local clubs arrange the school and the instructors fly out. Their proposed 2004 calender is online, looks like Seattle is on the list for July 22-24.

I've only been to two autocrosses, the first one I went to actually had an instructor actually rode with you if you wanted him to and you didn't have to pay anything. I guess it depends on who puts on the events. But I can tell if you I'm gonna dish out big bucks, I'm gonna go to one of these bad boys http://chinmotorsports.com/

I'm sure that if you ask one someone would be glad to give you pointers and maybe even ride with you. Better than shelling out all that money IMO.

One of the big advantages of the Evolution course, is the amount of seat time you get.

I took back-to-back Phase I and Phase II in one day, and we got something like 60+ runs that day... :D

It was almost worth the money just to get to drive so much!

The instruction and feedback was great too. And having the instructor drive your car - with you in it - and then immediately getting to drive it again yourself.

camaro_speedemon: I'm getting the best F-body drivers out here to ride along with me, or go with them. You can learn a bunch from that, but the more intensive training, great analysis (element by element timing breakdown), and John_D is right, sheer amount of runs really takes it to the next level. I'll still be looking for skilled drivers to ride along, the learning never ends.

On the CMS site: road racing is cool. When I finish my suspension, and get used to it on the autocross cicuit, I'll definately be out there. Try NASA racing as well. I just want to know my car in and out before I go to the road track. Spinning my Bird at 40mph in a parking lot isn't much to worry about. Misjudging a corner at 70mph and going offtrack can mean bad things.

Oh yea I can imagine getting more seat time is deffinately a big plus. But honestly, I would much rather spend that kind of money on a road course class. My friend says it beats the pants off autocrossing.

Last autocross I went to was just a practice. I got in 9 runs  By the end of the day I was driving the course fairly good. Seat time always ownz teaching.

I can't wait until I get my suspension rebuilt, mines FUBAR right now, I blasted a ball joint last autocross. Although it stopped knocking at me so I dunno.

Of course a road course owns an autocross, but it might be an unfair comparison -- an autocross is a sprint based on the quick acclimation to a course, and in road races driver's have run the same course for 25 years.
Which do I like? Well, I'm on the crew side of RR and the driver side of AX ... and the car is getting a drag setup. WHo knows. Go have fun, save it for the track
