  • Summit Point Raceway!!

    For all who are going to do autocross at Summit Point lemme know cause that is one of my favorite tracks. I race karts there and would be interested in going down to watch either SCCA or NASA. Stefan have you been here before?? :D

    AFAIK, when you autoX at summit point, you run the smaller (Jefferson) circuit. Should still be a blast. I can't wait. Exciting part: you get to run a real race track, not just a parking lot. [img]smile.gif[/img] The local group (WDCR-SCCA / Autocrossers.org) runs there (at least one time last year)

      In karts we race the big track and the times range from 1min 18sec to 2.00 min depending on the class. Im going around the track at 1.30 top speed 100mph laying on your back 3/4 of an inch off the ground. WEEEEEEEEEEEEE :eek:

        OK, I feel a little dumb for posting this, but I'm only human:

        At one time I held the Showroom Stock C lap record at Summit at about 1:42 in my Fiat X1/9. I also tooled around there in my old Titan Mk6 Formula Ford at 1:20 or so, well back in the pack. One race I beat Chip Gnassi (because he was disqualified, but hey).
        2000 Firebird convert, chameleon/tan, M5, Y87, TCS, BMR tower brace and panhard, KBDD sfcs, 245/50-16 GSCs

          You raced w/ CChhip Ganassi?? Wow thats cool! Do you still race formula fords??Im looking to get into open wheel racing. Im gonna have to pay $2400 :( to race in the Skip Barber Formula Dodge Northern Series.

            My FF days are long gone. I started in Showroom Stock (VW Scirocco), stepped up to a five year old (ie, ancient) FF for a year and a race. After a couple crashes, much $$$, and scraping up crew, I went back to SS (Fiat X1/9). 10 years of racing SCCA in all.

            If you go open wheel racing, a good crew is a must. At least two people who you are willing to trust your physical well being to.

            In today's dollars I could do a SS weekend for about $500. The FF was more than $1000/weekend, for me. The guys who were running up front were spending maybe $1500/weekend on tires alone (new tires for practice, for qualifying, and for the race). I bought used tires from them, one session old, and used them for a couple of weekends. The golden rule is: race in a class you can afford. In SS I was very competitive. In FF I was racing other guys with old cars and guys with new cars who couldn't drive (the reason for one bad crash).
