• Hal QA1 12 way adjustable rear shocks installed, UPDATE

From www.summitracing.com
Part # HAL-TC2501P

I already run the front ones.

Just so you all know, you need to have the lower shock bolts also!

If I had the bolts they would both be in in a matter of 45-60 min max!

Summit is unaware of thispart # required! Sigh.

Part # is HAL-7888-108

Ahhh, the nightmare's of drag racing and aftermarket parts!

I am trying to sneak off to the track before I send my computer out for tuning.

I have ordered the lower shock bolts and am having them overnighted.

Sigh, frigin $13 part each, needs 2 of them.... $25 for shipping?!?!?!?!

ARGH!

Should have called me James...Wouldn't have had this problem, as all we do is F-body and Vette parts. Such is life, have fun. A tuned suspension setup can make a BIG gain over stock, particularlly on a level of mofication like yours

Ok, so they are installed.

Very easy install.

QA1's weigh 3.5-4 pounds
Stock weigh 2.5-3 pounds

ARGH!!!!!!

MORE WEIGHT!!!!!

I took it out and had all four, front and rear, set to the hardest settingt to see how it was.

I normally set the front's to the hardest setting for cruising.

Well, on smooth highway it drove like a dream!

As soon as I hit a pothole/ crack in the road DAMN rode like a damn truck. Keep in mind, I have other suspension mods to stiffen the car up.

Sooooo, after cruising around town and on the highway it was time to play with adjustments.

I set the fronts to all loose and the rear's to 9 (I've been reading up on www.ls1tech.com drag racing section for suggestions).

Well, all I can say is WOW!

Normally I whack the throttle, @ss end drops, nose rises... and then the car accelerates.

Well, now, whack the throttle, @ss end squats ever so slightly, nose rises significantly and car lurches forward. It was a very pleasent surprise.

It makes complete sense though.....

Normally upon acceleration the rear of my car is twisting and squatting due to 90,000+ miles of worn out stock shocks.

Now, it just squats a little bit and instead of allowing the car to expend power through flex it just goes forward.

Similar to taking a rubber tranny/ tq arm mount out and putting a poly unit in.

Am I saying my bird is faster now, nope.

What I am saying is it seems like it is a MUCH more friendly launching car for drag racing.

I only put about 60 min of driving and 30 miles or so under the new set up.

I did measure the passenger and drivers side rear of car and found the passenger side sits 1/2 inch higher?!?!!??!!?

Not sure why yet.......

I have adjusted my front hal shocks so that w/o driver the drivers side front sits about 1/4 inch higher than passenger side front. When the driver gets in both sides are equal.

Well, I am hoping I can go to the track tomorrow to get a baseline but weather doesn't look good :(

http://www.weather.com/weather/detail/USNJ0381?dayNum=1

Then the puter gets tuned!

This suspension... it probably is overkill for my N/A set up...... but probably perfect for nitrous. We shall see
