  • Traction control?

I have a 3.8 A4 with 3.73 LSD. My 60's average about mid 2.4s. My 60' times vary up to .3 in a night!!?? I get absolutly no spin off the line but I when it shifts into second it will spin slightly sometimes. I bought the HPtuners software but I dont think it lets you shut off the traction control. My car is 97 RS so I dont have a button to shut off the traction control. I see the RK Sport has a switch to turn it off..is this something I need to invest in. I guess my real question is does it seem likely that traction control is my problem. My good times are generally 60' 2.4 1/8 10.05 1/4 15.70. Thanks for any help.

I did a search but I couldnt find a post that sounded like they knew for sure what they were talking about.

im guessing u have your stock TC are you stalling up when you launch im not sure but i think 1800 rpm is all the stock TC can handle. gears and LSD+stallin should give you better 60' than that.

i have no experience w/ traction control so i cant help you there

To my knowledge we don't have ASR/TCS on our V6 cars. If we did, it isn't able to be turned to the off position by default in the tuning, it has to be done with a switch or whatever externally from the PCM. This doesn't sound like a traction control problem. More of a need more practice and/or better tires problem.

i have ASR on my v6.. it is on by default whenever the car is started.. there is a switch right next to the fog light switch to turn it on and off.. when it is turned off a yellow light saying ASR OFF lights up on the dash

Ok not a tires problem because I"M NOT SPINNING!! I have probalby made over 500 passes at the track its not a launch issue either. Its not hard to launch a 15 second car with an automatic (Little to no skill required). I've stalled it high I've launched from idle and everything in between...it makes no difference. I have a traction light, lght up on my dash when I drive in the winter so I think I have TCS. In the RK spork catalog it says TCS on/off switch available for 97-02 in all models. I was more or less wondering if anyone tried launching with TCS on and off and how much of a difference it made. There is no other reason i can think of to why my 60' is so bad and why I can't ever seem to spin my tires.

oh jsut to clear this up..it kind of sounded like I was being a cocky A$$hole..thats not how I meant it. Thanks for the ideas. I just want to push the point I know its not a driver or a lack of traction problem.

does that low traction light ever light up when you are racing? if not then i doubt that is even an issue

no it doesnt, i htought of that but i wet down my drivway and stompted on it for about 80 ft. burning the hell out of the tires and it never lit either. I only had it come on when I was stoping in the winter.

oh if its only come on when you are stopping than it only lights up when your ABS goes on

sounds like you dont have any acceleration traction control or it would go on when you stomp it and your tires start to spin.. so its definately not an issue in your times
