• just got back from the track

Well I went back to the track to see if I can do better than last week ( 16.112 at83.71). Well I did do a tiny bit better but not really. I made 7 runs to night. And out of them all my best was
R/T .733
60' 2.312
1/8 10.313
1000 13.424
1/4 16.072
mph 84.73

I am really starting to hate my car it seems to run fine. but there has to be something wrong with my car. this time when I went I took out my spare and my box with 2 tens. put fuel injection cleaner and new plugs and wires and I checked thoughs like 3 times. Any insite would be great.

I have a 98 camaro with the Y87 package 3in after Spipe exhaust with a flowmaster 80 series muffler, whisper lid K&N air filter and transgo shift kit. And the temp was 86 degrees at 67% humidity. I am really bumed out about my times.

What elevation are you running at?

And is it an auto or 5 speed?

My sources say 850 feet above sea level. That's pretty good.

Ok, let's see if I can help.

How are you launching your car? The first thing I'd work on is your 60'. If you can drop it down to a 2.2 (which should be easy with the 3.42s) you should see 15.75s?

If the problem isnt your launch, then I'd start looking for tuning problems. Your MPH is pretty low. It was hot out but its still low, you should be seeing around 87 or 88 MPH with your mods, in my opinion.

Then again, I see you don't have any intake mods. Is that the case? The exhaust wont help much without opening up the air intake, so that could be hurting you too. Do you have a CAI?

Just some thoughts. I'm sure others will have advice.

im running a 16.014 on 3.23's i have a m5 and this was at 5200 elevation and 78- 80 temp, my 60 was a 2.404, i dont have many mods except for the free ram air and it really really helped i might try some custom stuff this weekend on my intake and imma tell yall how it goes, im also gonna have a hooker catback with a magna flow cat installed =), but man you should be running quicker than that with 3.42, was the track cold and not letting you hook up well in second? it could be your tires, i know that after i just changed to some 55's it dropped my time down by.2 cause i can hook better and launch much much better, ummm get your engine cooler with manual fans and such,

When did you last change plugs and wires? Tuning sounds like a possibility to me too.

Tires and launching RPM for an auto can make a significant difference. Make sure you're not spinning at the green light.

Good luck! Keep at it...

Well seem's like your spinning off the line. I have 3.08's and i'm cutting 2.3 60's, i know it sux. W/ 3.42's you should be in the 2.0-2.1 range. Also are you letting off too early at the end of the run? My first few times on the track i had 84-86mph trap speeds due to the fact that i was letting off to early.

Also try a bit more weight reduction, spare, jack, passenger seat, rear seats, LOW GAS! like around the 1/4 mark. And work on the launch. Experiment. Try 2000rpm's, then 1800, then 1500, just keep trying to see what combo works for your car.

IF all else fails, drop in a converter and a little juice and you should do fine :D

Good luck

Hmmm.... this isn't too tough to figure out. Your 60' is pretty significant, you need to HOOK. What kind of tires and what psi? Next, believe it or not, but your car is 5 years old now!!! Invest in autotap and a laptop, one of the best things you can spend money on, or borrow one from somewhere and see what your car is doing. I would advise monitoring your O2 sensor after the cat, that will tell you how rich or lean. Monitor your misfires, advance, and knock retard.

I know it sounds a bit extreme, but next time you go to the track try dumping ice on your engine to cool it off. My car has a significant drop in power when it's hot. That's one reason I didnt run well at the track when I ran it stock. BTW my time was 16.8 @ 84. That comparison shows how your mph is hurting your time.

Thanks,
Eric
