  • Question on trap speeds

Dumb question... Is the trap speed the mph you cross the finish line at or the average of your speed down the 1/4?

I ask because I was watching my video from the summer and I saw 111 up, then go to 100mph a second later?

    2002 SOM Z28 Camaro - 12.9 @ 104 mph
    1996 3800 Camaro - 13.43 @ 100.77 mph

It is the average of the last 40 feet. The end of the track has 3 lines, the 2nd line is the end of the track for timing, the 1st and 3rd lines are the start and stop for MPH calculation. Some tracks only use 2 lines, one of them doing two jobs.

So what is the 111 in the video mean at the 35 second point? Is that what I am crossing the real finish line at?

              ^^Yup^^

Mike they measure your MPH at TMSP just after the finish line.

I stay on the throttle until just before the win light mounted on the wall.

                    Re: Question on trap speeds

Its the average speed over the last 66ft of the track, or at least it is at the track I race at.

Trap speed compared to reall speed at the stripe is usually only 2-5mph difference. The top end of that gap is on boosted cars. I traped 104-107Mph last year but never did my datalog show less then 105mph. Up to 110mph last year at one point. I averaged 4 mph higher then the trap speed.
