  • Custom hitch fabrication

While I have the back end of my '94 Camaro apart, and while the weather is bad and I'm waiting on new parts to arrive, I'm going to show and tell how to build a massive-overkill hitch like the one I designed and fabricated for my '86 Camaro.
I just did this to the '83 RX-7 I'm building, and got love on several of those forums for that.
Now, this design is in the trunk, through the bumper, for maximum strength. It will let you safely tow much more than the GM rating. How much more has too many variables, but if at any point your towing feels unsafe, stop immediately. I safely towed over 4000 pounds behind my '91 Camaro RS with a very similar setup. But that was with electric trailer brakes working.
Anyway, for the main beam, 2.5" x 2.5" square mild steel tubing, 0.25"-wall, is overkill, but I wanted to spread the stresses out more. My '86 has 2.5" x 3.5", but now I can't get any more of that, so I'm going 3" x 3" x 0.25".
    Pics very soon.
