Sucks. Seems no one really works on their own cars here anymore, which sucks as well.

It does suck...

but overall what was he spending in parts? $250-300 for brakes? $200 for tie rod/suspension work?

He had the fram straightened which you can't even do yourself anyways. Sucks it was $800 but overall pretty cheap.

question... how can you tell you have a bad wheel bearing??

One went out in my friends 03 Ranger. Sounded like a damn squirll getting rammed in his wheel well. but yes, ususally metal against metal.
Cost him 400 dollars, because it was a 4 wheel drive truck
If it was a 2 wheel drive, it would have only been 30 dollars

Usually to get frame straightened is gonna be about 800 give or take a hundred or so.

Who did you take this to to have work done? My guess is you just got bent over the workbench and got that tie rod shoved in. One of my buddies has a 02 SS and just to get the frame fixed not including the other work from a dealership was over 1K.
