Lets say I like to buy a domain name thinking few years from now it'll be in great demand..HOw do I do it??? how much money are we talking about and how do I know that someone didn't register the same name?

I know that some sites have a charge, I think my friend pays 15 a year

Heres one I just randomly googled DIDNT Read it but I saw 5.99 for some package http://www.siteground.com/

Just go to name.com. Do a search on your name. It'll tell you what's available and you can register it there. I don't think I pay more that $5.99 per year for any on my domains and my host is 500GB of space and 5,000GB of monthly bandwidth for $89 per year. My registration is going through Ace Net. That freakin' company rocks! I have yet to have customer service turn-around times to exceed 5 minutes.

Go to godaddy.com you can register a name through them pretty cheap. I just registered mine for a business I plan to have live by the end of the year. You can do it for 1-10 years and add on all sorts of other crap. It's pretty simple to follow.
