  • Something to consider

Here's the scoop on a predicament I'm facing. I am literally out of money to keep gas in my Cam, so I need a car with better gas mileage. While thinking about it walking to work, I saw an MR2 that was in pretty good condition. I got time to stop and get a better look at it, and it was better than what I thought it'd be.

    1991 Toyota MR2
    Non-turbo
    t-top
blue interior (I'm not fond of it, but I can deal with it)
    white exterior

    The good-
    123043 miles
    new clutch
    new cv joints
    new tires
    new suspension
all the number match (I have seen countless rebuilds of MR2s)

    The bad-
Needs an AC compressor (its included, but not installed)
ever-present driver seat tear (minor, but still there)
one blemish cosmetically - one spot of fading paint on the rear bumper about the size of my fist

    The price...this shocked me...$2800

I humbly request someone with a carfax thing to pm me so I can further investigate the car...

What do you guys think? Good, bad, or ugly? Is it worth sacrificing my 'maro to have something thats about equivalent to it (I know its a bit slower)?

For that age of a car, its not bad. I've seen newer cars that have 200k+ miles.

I'd be more concerned with the age of the car than the mileage. You also have to wonder if a car like that has been beat on.

i would never buy a car with over 100k. the days will be numbered.

                      Wow, a Toyota with t-tops. I've never seen an MR2 with t-tops.

                        MR2s had t-top, targa, and sunroof/moonroof

I'm going back today to take the car to my NEW mechanic. I'm going to make sure it's mechanically sound before I pursue it any longer...

Please buy it, I'm sure there is a Toyota board somewhere that would love to have you.

                          1992 Toyota MR2
                          Fuel Type Regular
                          MPG (city) 19
                          MPG (highway) 26
                          MPG (combined) 22

                          1997 Chevrolet Camaro
                          MPG (city) 17
                          MPG (highway) 26
                          MPG (combined) 20

And we all know the V6's usually get better than advertised gas mileage.

                            Re: Something to consider

Exactly. If you are out of gas money how do you have $2800 to buy another old used car? You do realize that it will need work, they all do, otherwise the current owner would keep it.

Keep the Camaro and drive with a light foot.

Did you pick up the Camaro yet? Is the clutch job done?

By the way, a friend of mine has an MR2 and it is a mechanical nightmare.
