  • Epic Failure

My 'maro is finally in the shop. What finally got it there, was that it overheated and started clattering. Its the main bearings, rods, plugs, wires, water pump, and possibly the oil pump. The upper hose was cold, as well as the lower hose, and we found that the coolant is disappearing and evaporating somewhere in the engine. So, I'm without a car for about a week...epic failure...

        Re: Epic Failure

Just got a call...it melted a piston head, warping it. That was the initial cause of my misfiring problem. Also, my thermostat got corroded shut...again. This time, there wasnt a coolant mix, just a clog that made it to the thermostat and sealed it shut. Failsafe 'stat me a$$...

That's the first time I've ever heard of a thermostat being corroded shut...what exactly did you have in your coolant system? It is common for broken-down dexcool to clog a thermostat, but for yours to rust shut...what did you have running thru it?

            Re: Epic Failure

I flushed it about a month ago, and some of the remains must have gotten into the lines.

UPDATE 2. The dexcool ate through the intake gasket completely. My coolant disappearance act was because it was leaking inside and out. It evaporated from the engine's heat, so I had no clue what it was because it left no puddles in my driveway. It'll be a week before I get my baby back...

I am so confused. You melted a piston head. What is that???

How did this end up as an intake gasket repair.

It was a combination of both.
