  • I've discovered a new form of speed limiter on my car!

2 days ago I had a coil pack die on me suddenly, had to drive the car home at 10mph the whole way. Didn't realize it was a coil pack, and didn't have time to diagnose on my own, so I left it at my local garage.

Got it back with a new form of speed limiter!

For some strange reason, as soon as I hit 3500rpms, my Audiovox remote starter/alarm arms itself and starts sounding. I've tried everything I can think of and the dang thing won't quit doing it. Pulling the battery terminals didn't work.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to look cool when your car alarm starts going off as soon as you hit 3500rpms?

sounds almost like the annoying rev alarm on 2nd gen RX7s, except this one sounds more like a sound that makes you want to run the car in a brick wall...well, not really, but you get the message.

I assume it didn't do this prior to the coil pack incident?

Nope. I had a similiar problem like 5 years ago where the thing would just do it's arm cycle despite the key being in the ignition and the car in drive, but then I could just use the valet switch to turn it off completely.

This time, even if I have the alarm off, it just rearms itself at 3500rpms.

Strange thing is, I lost the coil pack 2 days ago, got the car back yesterday and the alarm thing started, today I lost the battery.

I'm thinking there's a short somewhere in the ignition system that's tanking everything connected to it. Possibly in the remote starter module.

Of course, the dang thing is buried in the dashboard, so there's no easy way for me to get to it :(

I have a similar problem, every time I hit 100 mph+ I hear a screaming sound from the passenger side. It sounds alot like an angry wife.

I enjoy passing Civics, because when you pass them at 130mph, they sound like an angry weedeater.

i wonder if its possibly rattling something?

im not too security-system inclined but i know loud noises at the track make cars trigger their "back off" horn
