  • Got an old cat laying around? Want to make easy money?

Ok, so I'm wandering through the for sale/ wanted threads looking for cheap LT1 parts and I came across a thread where a guy is paying $130 per pair or $65 each for factory LS1 LT1 GM cats and also pay's money for non LS1/ LT1 cats.

I thought it was quite odd and a load of BS....... but read the attached threads. LOTS of satisfied people!

I think I have the cat off the wife's elantra laying around so I plan on contacting him.

    and he is here too:

I bet there is a bunch of people on the board that have stock cat's laying around somewhere.

I just wanted to spread the info so others benifit - I don't know the guy..... but easy money is nice .

Once I contact him about the elantra cat and see what happens I will update this

No idea man - I'm just spreading the word so that my fellow v6er's can make some money on a part that most people would throw out.

I seriously thought this was going to be about the animals, not cats on a car.

He is probably turning around and reselling them. There is a scrap yard in our area paying $120 per used cat regardless of what car it came off of. I'm not sure what they do with them, but I think they in turn sell them to another company that refurbishes them or something. When I replaced my cat I took them the old one and got my $120.

There are all kinds of rare metals in them a few of which are worth a thousand dollars per ounce. That's why there's been an epidemic of ppl stealing them. Scrap yards cut them apart and extract the metals.

He said he will buy my 1997 3.8 Cat for $65

Scrap Yards pay decent money for cats b/c of there material (forgot what's in them but it's something valuable)

I think the local scrap yard gives like 50 bucks

palladium, rhodium and platinum are among the most valuable metals in cats

according to wikipedia rhodium is worth $6,500 an ounce..crazy!

i practically gave mine away, and then i saw that thread on ls1tech...

that guy sells them to a place that pays a lot more than that for each cat. so if you want to make REAL money, find who he sells them to. there are a few different places apparently.

People steal cats for the materials inside like Mike said. There was a big streak of it around here last summer.
