  • year-to-year changes on the z

A black camaro parked next to me today at school. (93-97) I saw SS badges and a v6/z hood, thinking it was a badged 6, i saw the rear discs, thought y87, then looked in and saw a M6. It had 00-02 SS wheels and a 96/97 SS spoiler. trying to figure out a year i saw the dashboard, 93-96. Thinking it could be an SS with a z28 hood, or z28 badged SS. so i've got it down to 93-96, but is there any other things i can look for to figure out more specific years? I've always thought it was annoying to not tell more specific years, and i think i've covered all the bases.. I figure he's already changed to aftermarket anything that could tell me more about the car but i was wondering if i'm forgetting something.

yeah, the SSs in 96 i think had single dual tip on the left? Anyway, I forgot to mention that, he had quad tips on there, so whatever he had originally is gone now.

Could be a Z badges as SS...

Or he could have f**ked up his hood at some point and too the cheap route (non-SS hood)

I wouldn't rely on exhaust as an identifyer

its a 1996 z28 with SS badges. if it was a 1996 ss it would have zr1s.

It had 00-02 SS rims so the original's were replaced anyways

Read the registration sticker? Or does that vary by state?

No registration stickers here. All the information is on the license plate. just an expiration date.

I know there was some special plaque in the later 4th gen SSs dashboard, did the 96 SS have anything like that? I looked inside and couldn't see anything like that, but the tinted windows were a bit hard to really see in.

I'm sort of thinking it might have been an SS because his hood was black, but the paint was in significantly worse shape than the rest of hte car, pretty swirly and scratched. Thinking it might be a junkyard hood. The right tail light had packaging tape on it and there was a small chip out of the hatch next to that tail so it gives off the "i don't have much money" ere. Which leads me to the Z/6 hood on the SS. Still not sure.

Re: year-to-year changes on the z

If you just want to find out what year it was, check the VIN on the windshield. It will tell you the year and what motor.

                    8th Digit - S = V6 3.4 ; P = V8 LT1; K = V6 3.8

                    10th Digit - P = 93; R = 94; S = 95; T = 96; V = 97; W = 98

lack of centercaps on the wheels, horrible shift knob, crappy swirly paint on the hood esp.
