              evo's have those, not nearly as advanced though... must be why theyre the fastest cars in the world.... imagine if they had these engineering masterpieces on them!

                  Ehhh those are used in airplanes for smoothing airflow on the wings and in S-shaped engine ducts for tail mounted engines. I dont think that would work on the back of a car.

                          Vortex Generators.

                          Generally the little vortexes that are created help the main airflow bend around curved surfaces that it would normally break away from when the curve becomes too radical. When the airflow brakes away from a curved surface is becomes unstable and turbulent.

                          Ultimately at the top end, those generators will be extracting energy from the car and hinder it's absolute top speed.

                            they wont necessarily hinder the top speed, depending on the way the air flows over the rear of the car.

                            think of a golf ball. Smooth balls create more drag than dimpled balls. smooth isn't always better.

                            basic info on why the dimples work on a golf ball: (can also be related to the fins)
