Found a possible replacement for my camaro

And noticed it has 4.10 gears to a manual trans...I thought this was pretty high considering the gears in our cars.

Do toyota gears work the same as GM? or does GM just put small gears in cars. I thought 4.10's were really high for a stock gear ratio...

Most four bangers will have gear ratios over 4.00...

      Re: eh Supra

Supra is an inline six. If it has 4.10's then it is either not a stock rear and/or gears. How much is it? How many miles? For a well equipped last generation supra you should be paying in the mid 20's to low 30's, if it's really cheap there's a problem.

Not unless we're talking about a 89 with over 100k miles.

This is true, in which case you would just be buying it to say I own a supra but would be too embarrased to show it to friends or family.

The 88-89 Turbo'd Supra's came with somewhere in the lower to mid 200's for HP. Not sure if it is wheel/crank.

                It's a 83 stick, I6 (rated 150hp/160tq)

It's $300 and it needs an Ignitor (I found a used one online for $50), I'm going tomorrow to look at it. 200K on body, 40K on drivetrain.

They did come with 4.10s stock tho

didn't know that. Well If you have access to Gran Turismo according to them the car has serious potential, they can even make them look good. Personally I wouldn't but if you need a beater then that sounds good. Def underrated if you want to tune on it.

                      Re: eh Supra

They kinda remind me of old porsche's, being a Supra and with all those damn tuners, I'm sure it would have a decent resale value once fixed up.

Anyways, I think it's the "best possible" replacement for the maro for under $500 and I just thought it was wierd that it had such a high stock ratio...

Its not really that wierd.. if you've only got a little bit of power you need those short gear ratios to make it go fast.. thats what i was trying to say by bringing up the 4 bangers.

Not RWD generally, in FWD it's not uncommon to see some step up to a total final ratio of 4.6x's and there are some aftermarket kist that step up to almost 5.xx

At the end of Part Three, we changed the valvetrain of the 3.8-liter V6 in the Tom Henry RS. We installed new, Yella Terra "Ultralite" 1.8:1, aluminum roller rocker arms, Katech valve springs and Katech titanium retainers on our 3800 Series II V6.
Ultralites are nearly 25% lighter than the stock 1.6 rockers and 8% lighter than the SLP aluminum...
