  • Cobalt SS / Civic Si - Opinions?

Im definitley dumping the Legacy. I need something with more balls. I was dumb to think I wanted gas mileage over hp...

Anyway, im looking for any inside info or experiences anyone has had with a new Cobalt SS or Civic Si. Anything?

My father bought a base model Cobalt 5 spd just for his highway work commuter. I drove it the other day and was actually impressed. It was a peppy little 4, and the shifts were tight. Seems like a decent car. Out of curiosity I looked up a Supercharged SS fully loaded (Every option available w/o On star), and it was only 23-24,000 MSRP. I can't help to think its just another Cavalier though.

The Si, I just sat in one at this Honda event, and I think im starting to like its fugly design, lol. Thats about 23,000 too. Not bad, not bad.

    So, anything?

We own a 2007 civic si and so from personal experience I can tell you that it is a very nice car. The gas mileage is excellent and it still has some get up and go. Its very solid, and very easy to control.

Its more than likely going to be a lot more reliable than a cobalt and in my opinion it doesn't look too shabby. I've grown to like it.

gonna refer you on over to this thread... http://forum.camarov6.com/showthread.php?t=78132

and for grins, i searched it up on edmunds, heres the linky:

note that for similar pricing, you get a really beefy powertrain warrenty with the cobalt.

I'm not one of those people thats gung ho american and japanese cars all suck... they dont. Weigh the two out equally and go with the one you feel will give you the most bang for the buck. If it happens to be the honda so be it.

I work with one of the former lead engineers on the cobalt program for the interiors. After discussing the program well, i know that at least the fit and finish of the interior should match up favorably to honda's reputation.

Rule #1 tho! Dont buy the first day you drive a car!!! its the oldest trick in the dealer's book. 90% of people will buy the first car they test drive. drive it, critique it, and sleep on it!

            I found that quite funny

The only con listed on that site about the civic si is that it have a "Controversial Gauge Cluster". I personally like though but its all opinion.

hey, i just linked it up real quick for ease of reference, so dont hold it against me. if i'm wrong, i'm wrong. i'm just sayin', for the game the guy talked about makin sure everything was perfect finish-wise, i figured that it'd be as good as he said it was.
I personally think that the auto media is a bit biased against american cars, but again, i just linked it up so you could get a quick look at prices and warrenties.
what i'm tryin to get across is that whenever you buy a vehicle, you need to look for yourself at everything. get a good comparison of every little thing and take time to examine each one at a dealer. thats all, i'm not trying to claim either one is better cuz i havent researched them much...

Thanks man, thats all helpful. But trust me on your rule #1. I know that full well, lol. It takes me FOREVER to decide, hence why I posted here. Its almost annoying the amount of time and thought process I put into it, haha. It took me 2 months to decide on the goat, 3 months on the bike, 4 months on the Subaru... I like knowing all the tid bits of info I can get. I shop around, thats why it takes so long. I try everything so when people ask, why didnt you get such and such? I tell them exactly why.

haha, I don't trust those car review things either. I just thought it was ironic how it stated pretty much the opposite of what you said.

Deff. Honda Civic SI ......... those are sweet little car ......... get the 06 or 07 model ........... very balanced and comfortable car........... with 6 speed gearbox and 200ish HP , i give them two  .......also, they hold amazing resale value ............some people who bought their 04-05 Si (prev. model) around $16.5k .........after putting 30-40K miles they are still selling them for the same ........... the thing about cobalt or neon is that their interior material/finish is cheap looking ........ i am always so embarassed when someone sits in my camaro ......... our interior is really bad ........ i don't know how old are you , but right now i am leaning toward cars that have nice interior, quiet, easy to handle, reliable, comfortable etc .......... why dont' you test drive the si and see how it is? ...... i am pretty sure you'll end up buying it .......even if you buy it(at a good price) and drive it for 10K -20k , you can still sell it for almost the same price ........ win-win situation

                            :)
