Hello all. I found this site not too long ago while researching camaro stuffs on the internet. I have mainly been just reading, and taking everything in. Here is my situation.

I am not new to working on/with cars, I built a car which I will not bring up here, because I don't want to be flamed. I am new to the camaro scene though. I have always wanted one, ever since I was little. Many things have stopped me before though. I couldn't afford the car, and the insurance, and the gas due to my age. Now things are different though. I am 25 and married so the insurance is no problem, and now that I am in my career I can afford the car and the gas.

Unfortunately I can not afford a SS camaro (not downing the v6) one of my coworkers has a SS, and it is so friggin fast. In my area most of the Z28s are very high mileage, or the price is insane. Now, I helped my little sister get her first camaro (V6) and I have driven it a few times, and I really do enjoy it. So, I have made my decision. I will get a V6 camaro. I am looking around for the car, as I am very picky this has proved difficult. I want 98 or above for the year, it has to have T tops and must be manual. I can not stand driving an automatic car.

Now a few questions:

For the V6 camaro the 3.4L is on the 97 and below, and the 3.8L is on the 98 and above?

Around what mileage does the V6 start to have problems?

How hard is it to get performance parts for the V6? (i have searched, and found 95% LS1 and LT1 parts, not so much v6)

Last but not least the v6 is 200 horses, how difficult/expensive would it be to make the car up to 300 horses? (CAI, manifold, exhaust, gears, etc.)

I would like to put nitrous in the car, but that won't be until the car is paid off most likely, so I would like to get as close to 300 horses before the nitrous.

Thanks for your time.

The 3.4 L was in '93 through '95 1/2. Several people on here have over 200,000 miles, it all depends on the maintenence and up keep of the car. This site has several sponsors that carry lots of performance parts for our cars. Do a search in the technical section, several posts of "how can i get 300 NA horsepower" have come up lately

300 is hard to do N/A but you can get pretty close with the right choices and tunning.

Welcome.

300 ponies on the 3.4 is doable. Check the adv tech section, but the list looks something like:

CAI
custom Ram air if possible
high-flow exhaust
headers
P&P heads
port matched intake
high pef cam
tuning
underdrive pulleys

and probably some that I am forgetting.

Thank you for the warm welcome. That link for the abbot racing heads was helpful, thank you.

I was at Vehix.com and did a comparison between the v6 comaro and firebird, and the only differences I saw were a small size difference in the rear seats, and the firebird came with two more speakers. (not to mention the body styling) is there any other differences I should know about between the two cars? I kinda like the hood, tail lights and the spoiler of the firebird a bit more than the camaro, but I am a little more fond of the camaros interior.

it'll take more than that for a 3.4. viper98885 has all that done(give or take a few things i cant remember everything he did but its similar to that list) and i think he's hitting somewhere around 240rwhp.

as far as tuning a 3.4........... good luck finding someone to do that. there arent many if any at all that will without a lot of $$$$$

btw ram air isnt any better than a CAI.

Are you sure you don't want a Firebird?

I am also looking into a firebird. I made a post (maybe 3 posts higher) asking what the differences were, if any between the firebird and camaro besides speakers, hood, tail lights, spoiler.
