i just recently, about a month ago, fount an old set of golf clubs in my garage just sitting there collecting dust. So i decided to go out and play some golf. well needless to say i got hooked. I have a HORRIBLE slice due to the fact that i played baseball for 13 years of my life and have horrible golf swing habbits to break.

i dont know why im giving a life story here.. i just wanted to know how many peopel here play golf? and how long have u been playing?

i play...i've been playing since i was about 10, i'm 20 now. it's the most aggravating game in the world, but it's fun when you play with friends/family. my cousins and my brother and I all go to the driving range together, we play on the course with my dad.

most major manufacturers make "basic" sets...spalding, wilson, nike, etc. etc. just look on their websites.

my friend told me to get nice meaty clubs.. like a big beartha driver.. that way i can concentrate on my swing more and swing slower while still getting good distance.. that true?

I played all through highschool, I never got great but it was a good time. I haven't touched the clubs in over a year but I've been tempted the past week or so to go out and hit the range.

I love golfing. I don't do it much anymore since our kids were born. I took my oldest son to the driving range recently.

McG - The full golf course is way more fun than the range.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

I have been playing for a year now. Its not aggravating to me, its actually quite relaxing. I usually go by myself, because my friends think that going outside is lame and playing a playstation all the time is cool. As for a decent beginners set of clubs, just go to Wal-mart or similar and get the $180 set of clubs. Until you are better, I wouldn't recommend spending $500 or more on a set.

Tyler, a big bertha driver may be a little pricey for your talents as of now. Like I said, I have been playing for a year, and I don't think I am quite ready to step up to a driver like that. I am still working on my drives; they have a tendency to hook a little once they are in the air. I would suggest working on just keeping the ball straight, instead of distance. Your score will get lower and lower the straighter the ball is, not how far you crank it.

oh i know.. ripping the ball is the least of my worries right now.. the thing is, right now im workign on my swing and form for a strait shot. so my swing is half speed if not less than that. reason why i say big bertha or any other large displacement driver is because i can swing softer alloweing me to perfect my swing while not sacrificing in the distance as much.

i've been playing 10+ years (can't quite remember when i started).

set yourself up with a decent friend or an instructor, or even a group class... good way to meet people and get started off on the right foot with the basics. i wish i had done that; that's why it's taken me 10 years to be as sorry as i am!
