  • Got robbed tonight at work

I work at a family owned service station as a cashier. I never really thought it would happen since we close up around 8pm on weekdays. It happened at about 5:15 this afternoon.

A guy came in and had his back to me. I greeted him as a regular customer and he turned around, knife in hand. "Gimme all your money, I'm robbin' ya" he says. I kinda just stared at him for a second and he says "Gimme all your money" So I opened the register and began pulling the money out. "Hurry hurry, gimme the money or I'm gonna kill ya" he says. I threw the money on the counter and he says "Now gimme some of them Newports  I threw some on the counter shaking, and he scoops them up and runs out the door, past the window where I can't see if he got in a car or was on foot. "Don't call the cops right away" he says as he runs out the door.

It's been a weird experience, I didn't think I'd be robbed in my lifetime. I don't think he will be caught either. My boss said the video camera wasn't recording anything. The visual description and written description I gave the police was a man in his 50's or early 60's, 5' 7-8", full gray beard, wearing sunglasses and a baseball hat. The police arrived about 2 minutes after I had dialed 911, which was impressive. There were 3 police cars at first, then two went up the highway looking for him. I think I saw around 6-7 police cars as well as a crime scene investegator unit. The unit dusted the counter for fingerprints but they weren't really able to come up with anything besides a smear of when the guy scooped up the Newports. Since there were so many customers, they couldn't get any off the door either. We had to close down the station for the night. As I closed, I was $472 short, and the guy made out with 4 or 5 packs of 3 of Newports, each valued at $8.80 per pack of 3. :(

Crazy Night, there were so many things I could have done but couldn't think at the time; I was still a little shocked. I was told I did the "right thing" by just giving him the money by my boss and the police officer, but I can't help feel bad that I let the guy walk out with about $500 worth of money and cigarretes.

My sisters store was robbed about a week ago. It was during closing though and the guy only stole some cigs. I am glad your okay. I wouldve been freaking out if I was in that situation.

It was in Pasadena MD. I was pretty calm, just a little shaky. I guess it's the first time I've experienced this "shock" emotion.

you should keep a gun under the desk... he may have a knife, but a gun can get you from a much bigger distance. ;)

and then you can also be like, "GIT MAH RIFLE!!"

              glad you weren't hurt man.

There were no weapons under the counter, and there probably won't be. I'll find out tommorow when I go in if the store has insurance for that sort of thing.

That's something I think about too, I can't imagine what I'd do besides just give them what they want (that's company policy).

I try not to keep more than $100 in my drawer... less than $75 if possible.

Thats why you have to pack heat behind the counter. Kinda of ironic your name being Iwant$$$ with the whole story and all.
