  • Design and fabrication project ideas?

I have two seperate courses this semester that I get to design something, and then make it. I have access to an endmill which we can machine plastics with (tool bit limitations), a CNC lathe that we can machine aluminum with, a lathe that we can machine aluminum and steel with, some 1/16" sheet metal and some benders and press welders. I can also do some cast aluminum too if the piece is not too complex. Our projects must remain relevant to the course (so no weapons). Does anybody have any good ideas? Try to keep it simple. Thanks.

Lol, those are awesome. I don't think it would be cost effective for the school to provide us with clear aluminum though. I was thinkin maybe a new battery tray since mine has been broke since 2000 or so. Any other ideas?

Yeah, I just wish I had some other ideas that they aren't going to shoot down right away.

you could make a liscence plate frame, but instead of stickers on there you could use the lathe to engrave CAMARO or something like that, simple yet could be fun.

or you could make me a single din face plate so it doesnt look so goofy with the dash kit.

Is this for college or high school? Those are the same machines I have in my high school, along with some sanders and cutting machines. I like the license plate idea, I was going to suggest custom wheels but it seems like too big of a project for only a semester.

Yeah, this is a college project. We have other machines, but they aren't comfortable lettin the students jump on their 50,000 dollar CNC turret lathe. So I'm limited on what I can use and make.
