  • Need some help....

I changed my girlfriend's oil on sunday. She drives a Ford Focus. Today I noticed there was some oil on the garage floor so I check my moms van, b/c I changed her oil too, for leaks and told my gf to check hers. My moms van was fine...My gf calls me saying there is like maybe 1 quater of oil if that in it. So i check everything, everything was cool on it. I checked the drain plug...Wasn't loose. Checked the filter...it was fine too. Some how she managed to lose 4 quarts of oil. She said she noticed some buring smell on the way home from class. After I checked the filter and plug, i filled it up with some new oil. I had her start the car and the thing starts smoking like a mother ******. What do you guys think happened? I checked where she parks at her house and no oil spots. Where the heck did 4 quarts of oil go? Besides the smoking part when she tried to drive it shuddered really bad. I think she managed to spin a bearing driving the car with low oil. I'm just confused on how 4 quarts of oil go missing when everything that I changed was ok!?!?!?!?!

It could have leaked from the oil filter :shrugs: once the ring of the old oil filter stayed stuck on the adapter plate, when I installed the new filter it started leaking after a while, thats when we found out the seal of the old filter stayed on and doubled up and caused a pretty bad leak, just sharing my experiences.
            Good luck
