serious situation, seeking input

Just got back from my friend's place. Here's the story: one day he asked this dude girls to come to the party. Apparently, her idiot boyfriend took it the wrong way, so they lured him into the empty parking lot (I was with him)... while I was talking to this guy that I knew (there were total 3 of then and 2 of us), the idiot boyfriend started punching my friend. I went in and got in-between the idiot boyfriend and my friend, attempted to stop the fight, but it would just drag on, so I told my friend to get in the car, we got in the car and started driving away. My friend got couple of punches to his face and his tooth chipped.

Here's the question:
His life has been seriously threatened by these idiots. Basically they said they were going to kill him. What is the best course of action to take in this case? We already went to their houses after the incident and got their addresses and their cars tag numbers. He was planning to file a restraining order, cuz "taking law into our own hands" wouldn't be too wise in this case, especially over a girl. We also can't just forget about this, since my friend's tooth is chipped now, so he obviously has to get his payback somehow...
Any input on this?

im one for vigilante justice but if u dont wanna go that route get a police report and sue the **** out of him...

I put as much thought into a threat as I do to scratch my ***. My life has been threatened repeatedly, and I am still here. Threats are stupid, anyone dumb enough to warn you first that they are going to do something usually won't do it.

Mogobs is right...file a report...call a lawyer an see if it's worth messing with...i'd definetly have it documented even if ya don't press charges...then i'd wait til it all blew over and was forgotten about...an whoop somebody's A$$

I hate that Americans are all about sueing everyone for some stupid @$$ reason, but in this case, or cases like these, I would hold a law suit over his head. Police reports don't do $hit, and what's a restraining order going to do? How often do you run into these guys? How old are they, and how old are is your friend? This is all probably some dumb male ego getting blown outta proportion.

He's probably right, but it's always better to be safe than sorry, especially in your friends case.

Okay here is a layout for you: Best thing is to REPORT the incident, it will do two things...1 Assure that you remove yourself from any liability and or blame for the situation, the law looks at the person who made a complaint the victim almost automatically. 2 By filing the incident you don't have to actually press any charges against him, the complaint is considered "informal" and you will have to chose to go another step to place a "formal" complaint which will then grant a warrant for Mike Tyson's arrest. This helps if you choose to pursue any additional legal action against Roy Jones by giving you the "head-start" in a basically level case. When I say level I'm referring to the fact that you are his witness, and they are his.

Both parties obviously would have something to gain from "stretching" the truth to benifit their party. Judges look at those cases all day and throw them out, what helps is the chippy tooth your friend has....it's the only REAL factor here.

Take pictures of his tooth before he gets it fixed, you may need it. I could write a 15 page piece of legal junk, but I don't think you will need it. Oh, and judges frown and laugh at cases about a guy fighting over a girl (as it seems) and vice versa so getting any monetary compensation is going to be like pulling chipped teeth :)

What is more likley to happen is that a scentence may be granted to Mr Ali that makes anger management classes mandatory, especially if no previous history about him being violent ison record. That will embarass him and cost him some money, but won't place a scratch on his criminal record; only his reputation.

Yea I'd file a report. Last time I had someone threaten my life, they came after me.... pussied out and ran away. Then took out my rear windshield with the baseball bat he was threatening me with the night before lol. (Btw the detective that was suppose to come out or contact me never has and its been over 2 yrs now lol)

A threat carries the same weight as assault and battery in Virginia. Call the police. It is just as bad to threaten someone as it is to actually harm them.

likely nothing will happen form the report but later on down the line, if something else happens you have a police documented show of their actions...

don't go vigilante... and idea of a weapon in the car is a good idea too... something that can be considered and every day object, but just incase they decide to wait in empty parking lots again like a bunch of pusssies...

world woudl be a much better place if people quit trying to act like they are all tough and hardcore... :rolleyes:
