  • Cast iron + frozen pizza = greatness

So, the problem with frozen pizzas, especially rising crust ones, is that you cook it like the box says and end up with perfect outside and the cheese in the center is barely warm. The center crust is soft, but cooking it the rest of the way will char the outside.

I got a convection toaster oven which helped cook the whole crust evenly, but still didn't seem to hit the cheese in the middle enough.

Cast iron frying pan to the rescue. Needs to be nice and well seasoned (black!).

Don't preheat the oven. Put the pizza in the pan, and sit it in the bottom rack of the oven. Then turn the oven on, and cook according to directions (400* for 20 mins or whatever).

Pizza's been coming out perfect. Woot!

Dude, it's the same effort as regular frozen pizza, you just toss it on a cast iron frying pan instead of a cookie sheet or the rack..

you can also use unglazed quarry tiles from your local hardware store. a cheap but effective pizza stone.

The MRE's didn't have heat packs until just before I got out. Those new heat packs are great!
