  • Need Help with a DUI prone friend

My buddy has a drinking and driving problem. He wrapped his car around a tree this summer. Now that school started, he needs a new car. His liscense is revoked, and he is going to jail on friday for a mandatory 5 days.

He went to buy a beater tonite. It is like $200. Here is the trouble...

His name is blacklisted with the local authorities, so he wants to register the car in my name. I blurted out "yes" when he asked me, but I have since decided that it might be a bad idea.

What would happen if he got pulled over? Would I get in trouble for letting him borrow a car if he has no liscense?

Can the car be registered and insured in two different names?

What is your take on the issue? What would you do if you were in my shoes?

i'd tell him that i thought about it and realized it wasn't such a good idea. tell him that he messed up and i don't want to be involved with it. tell him to accept responsibility and take his punishment.

That is all the answer you need. There are less painful ways to screw yourself.

I had a g/f who kept bugging me to drive my last Camaro. She kept insisting she was a good driver. Yet she had no license.

If he was really your friend he would not put you in that position. He wouldn't even think of asking. Tell him to use a bicycle.

not only can you be charged criminally for allowing a dangerous driver to operate a motor vehicle and/or allowing an unlicensed driver to operate a motor vehicle, but any damage he causes will result in you being sued for all the money you will ever make.

we are working an offense like that right now. mom buys car for son and leaves it in her name. he gets plastered and does about $100K worth of damage. everyone is going after mom and she hasn't hesitated to let us know how screwed she is.

You dont' need a police officer's advice on this one. Don't do it. He made the mistake, and he needs to realize WHY he is blacklisted at the time being.

On a second note...how is it you have a Series III in your V6?

Why would you aid in a crime like that?

Just think if he drove drunk and killed a family or himself... then it'd be on your head... He is obviously irresponsible... sometimes people just need to suffer through something to learn a lesson from it.

I just call it a III because I have L32 rods. It is actually just a bunch of non stock parts; L32 rods, diamond pistons etc...

If you want to call me out, it's not a series III. I admit it.
