I just saw the one where they pimp an '81 T/A

When I first saw the show a few months ago I thought it was pretty cool, but now that I've been looking into modding my bird the show downright pisses me off. I dont know how much work they do to the engine, but it can't be much more than just enough so the car doesnt stall or smoke.

If they put $30,000 into performance mods instead of giovanna wheels, a coffe machine, a ricey paint job, and all the other pointless stuff they throw on the cars, MTV would have a kick *** show. For the price of the wheels alone, you could turbo, nitrous, and replace all the exhaust on one of our cars. But the (generally) shallow MTV crowd seems to like PMR or it wouldnt be coming back for a second season.

Or maybe Im just pissed that I can't afford a turbo

the show isnt exactly geared towards your typical "car guy". its for the average joe who doesnt know anything about cars.

    for instance...

in the episode where they "pimped" that girls ugly white civic coupe, they put a wing on it and called it "functional." Exzibit called it "functional" because the angle of the wing could be changed. they also put a chickeniwre grill on it to "keep bugs out of the engine", not because they put a nice intercooler and turbo on it.

in the crx episode and the episode where they bought the kid a new scion they were so proud of themselves because they put a HUGE wing on the cars. they were so proud of how huge these wing were. in the crx episode they did do engine work... well sorta. they put a new engine in the car. i dont know how old the engine was, but it was definitely the stock engine with all stock parts. it was some old 80's 4 cylinder. thye said they put a "dress up kit" on it. all i saw was the oldschool air cleaner sitting on top of the thing had been pained red.

if i remember correctly they did a pretty nice job on that one girls old mustang, but i dont remember that episode all that well. its fun to watch, but dont look at it from a performance perspective.

It's only fun to watch how ridiculous they can make a car look.

I must admit, some ideas are cool...that's about it.

I like the show. I like watching what they come up with to do to the cars and how they make it look after wards. But you would never catch me submiting my car to that show. I don't want my car "pimped" out I just want it fixed up. I much prefer the show Over Haunlin' on TLC. They do a complete restoration of any car. From bumper to bumper and everything inbetween is fixed up, rebuilt, and made to run way better than when it went in.

I think its pointless to take a car that isnt worth anything and putting in so much money into it. I bet when they got home to whever they live, half of their cars probably got broken into anyways. lol

yeah, they dont do much to the engine, the yoga chick with the yellow jeep had her car for sale on ebay, and everything was nice but the engine. They dont usually do anything besides basic maintenance.

I would rather but 1k towards some rims than towards nitrous or headers or something.

I agree with crasher, OverHaulin' is a much better show for car guys. I just wish they would go into a little more detail on what they do. Pimp My Ride is for MTV, their audience is probably the only ones who would like it (teens who like to see things look flashy).

I called the paint jobs ricey because putting flames or whatever the hell this is on a slow car is rice. Theres no way around it.

And obviously you care that I don't like the show because you spent the time telling me why I should :D

Yah I think it funny all the money they spend on them I like overhauling way more. Plus they trick you into thinking something horrible happen to you car so the person is so not expecting whats really happening to their car.

pimp my ride is about looks, not substance. Only overhaulin show I've seen was last week on the 442

I thought the body work on the '81 T/A on the pimp show looked awful. The gaps between the hood and fenders were really wide.

Overhaulin is a lot better show. But the '68 442 show kind of left me hanging because they didn't dyno it after the engine mods. They dynoed it before the mods and it put out 245HP to the rear wheels (which was about 50HP more than I expected them to report) so I really wanted to see what all the mods could do.
