Anyone know anything about parking tickets?

Well I just got a $100 parking ticket and I'm a bit pissed. Here's the deal. I've lived in the same dorm for the last 2 years, there is a street that runs along the football stadium with spots to parallel park. Today I parked in the very last one. It is not any different from any other space. However, apparently its a hadicapped spot. I have never noticed the sign in the 2 years i've lived here. It's not facing the direction you are comming from when you park there. It's facing across the street. (street runs N S sign points W) it's past the spot, not directly beside it and there's no guy in a wheel chair painted there. Do I have a case fighting it since it's very poorly marked? or am I screwed? It's issued by the university but are there any rules that say you've got to paint the dude in the wheel chair on the spot? I thought that was common practice. Anyway, if anyone knows anything I'd appreciate it.

so youre saying the sign pointed across the intersection, and not towards you when youre coming down the right side of the street? that doesnt make any sense. i would think you should be able to fight that.

PHOTOGRAPH EVERYTHING! That's all I can say. Photograph where your car was, etc. Then photograph the whole lot without your car, and when you contest it, ask the officer to point to where your car was at when he wrote the ticket. Then use that in correlation with the photos that you took of your car in the spot, and the sign pointing the wrong way. Judge's like photographs. "A photo is worth a thousand words."

I went down and took a bunch of pictures of the spot. I plan on fighting the charge, it's $10 bucks to fight but it'll be worth it. Even if I lose the [expetive]s will still have to read my freggin long explanation of why their parking system is not up to the correct standards :D

Take some pictures, if you don't think the spot was posted right, I'll pull some traffic sign manuals & see if I can't get you some ammo to fight the ticket.

I really don't know if it's posted right or not, I really don't know the rules behind it, I've been searching for a while and can't come up with anything. If you could pull those manuals or even tell me where I could find some I would REALLY appreciate it. Thanks man

My main traffic book is at home, but I'll see if I can't find the DOT ref. manual you can pull at the library.

if it was issued by the city and you went to traffic court, the judge would probably dismiss or at the very least greatly reduce it for you.

since it is issued by the university, I doubt you will get anything but the $10 surcharge. They dont have to follow any rules and love to make parking hell just so they can rape the students trying to get to their classes, as if the cost of tuition doesnt have you bent over and bleeding already.

Oh... I am 'the guru' of finding elusive free parking spaces and parking tickets. trust me on this one. ;)

But the sign is facing the right direction. Think about it, the street runs North and South. If hes driving north, parallel parks on the right side of the street, then the handicap sign should be on his right, on the curb, facing west, at the parking spot.

Id still def fight it, im just saying sounds like the sign was in the right spot to me... [img]tongue.gif[/img]
