• LS1 block or LT1 block?

well i have an offer from a junkyard to buy either of the blocks. and thats all im getting. he has already taken them apart to sell the parts. anyways, which do you guys think i should buy? I'm going to build the engine up w/ the best parts i can and have it setup for forced induction. i want it to be a very powerful motor and strong enough to handle it. i have always heard the iron block of the LT1 was really strong. i dont know anything yet as for parts anyways but i'll do my homework. i just want to know what do you guys think would be the best block for high power drag racing. im just so glad im getting either one. i has been a long awaiting dream to start building my own v8 from the ground up. Cast iron block LT1 will handle the power better than the aluminum LS1 block.
LT1 will be cheaper to build up too, I think.

Lots of new stuff coming out for the LS1 though that make those things run pretty wicked... I'd probably go for the LS1.

RallyRed they are putting a new type of sleeve in them that actually holds up pretty well... I can't remember if they're cast iron or something else.

go to www.nu-tekmotorsports.com to get a good idea of a forced indution LT1. Personally, I would go that route.... but expect about 8 grand in the engine for the best parts. Fully forged and stroked LT1 bottom end with a LT4 conversion top end with heads from AFR.

o' im going to go all out on this. it will probably take about 2-3 years to do the engine not including having the forced induction. i will have my car payed off by then.

The early LS1 blocks had a very thin sleeve. You couldn't bore it out, and resleeving is expensive. The later LS1 blocks had a thicker sleeve designed to be bored out so the engine could be rebuilt. Not sure of the exact year, I believe it was 2000+.

What are you going to do for induction? Piecing together a fuel injection system is going to nickel and dime you to death. LT1 with a direct ignition system would probably be your best bet. If you going to go LS1, buy a complete motor, not a block.

well it a 2000 block, but he isnt offering the whole engine cause he has already stripped it and even sold some parts. as for forced induction, im not really sure. im a supercharger man and since its going to be a trailered drag car, a blower would be nice but i have no clue if they even have one that would go on an LS1. as you can tell, i dont really know much about what im getting into but im really intelligent when it comes to this sort of thing and it wont take long to learn what i what to know when i actually start to research. keep the info comeing. if it even matters, this is going in my camaro when its all said and done.

BLLDOGG you can get 400+ cubic inches out of the 6.0L block, PLUS its cast iron... you can make a beast out of those things.
On top of that, AFRs new badass heads for the LS1 work on the 6.0L too... I might build one after I graudate college and start working... or I might build a real custom 3.4 just to play around with havn't decided yet.

If you are serious about it, I can talk to my dad. He's been a mechanic for 30 years, his specialty is building motors..
