• insurance co. might total it...

my dad talked to our insurance dealer, who is also a good friend of our family. she said that depending on the company, they might decide to just total the car and write me off a check. there's $4,000 of damage to my $6,000 car. and whether we claim it or not, they're gonna rape me as far as insurance prices, so they might just total it since we'll take the claim on it.

if they do total it, i hope to god they give me more than $6k for it. that way i can maybe get a '98+ firebird... found one in the detroit area i like. i know it's a little early to be looking around because chances are, they won't total it but hey just in case...

I think they give you "fair" market value of your vehicle when/if it's totaled. But I'm no insurance expert, being that I never wrecked my car. I think we have a few experts in that field floating around here... LOL

one thing u should know,
YOU HAVE FIRST SALVAGE RIGHTS TO YOUR CAR!
if they total your car, you can buy it back for a certain percentage of what it would be worth ..
I had a mustang that was totaled from a breakin and vandalism... I got 4 gs then i paid like 700 bux back for the car. Its ~15%.....

be sure and tell them about any new major parts, like tranny, or engine rebuild. And paintjob along with anything u have spent on the car, it will make it go up...

yeah, i could buy it back... but then i'm stuck with fixing it myself. right now i'm pretty much broke. there's no way for a kid to find a job around here. so i could buy it back and then not have enough to fix it. if they end up totaling it, i'll just end up bumming rides off of friends for a while until i can find another firebird.

my friend got in some er... trouble... so he's pretty much limited to sitting around in his house and he can't drive his car until the end of the summer when school starts back up. so his camaro is sitting in his driveway all summer. he said he was considering renting it out, so if they total my car i could pay him to use his car until i can find a new one. that way i won't be walking everywhere :( .

hm... parts car would be good. make some money off of stuff i don't need too . we'll just wait and see what happens.

good news though... if they don't total it, i found where i want to get it fixed (which is actually the cheapest too). it's a pontiac dealership and i talked to the guy after giving me an estimate and he said depending on what the insurance company says, i can get any aftermarket parts i want as long as it's of equal or lesser value. or unless i pay the difference. so i'm thinking a trans am front bumper and a big block hood. or ram air hood if i can find one around $670.
