  • my buddy rolls his eclipse...

went to school yesterday and he wasnt there on time. the guy never misses class and if he does i call him during class to wake him up. noone answers any phones and he never shows up for class.

find out later that day my friend rolled his mitsubishi eclipse 2003 three times. he passes someone on a road that was underconstruction. he didnt think about loose gravel being on the road and lost control. he went to turn back from passing, lost it, fish tailed he said 8 times before he hit a huge ditch and rolled a few times.

i saw him in the hospital last night and he was just getting done with surgery for the glass in his head and some skin graphing. other than that he is A O K>

i would say he is very fortunate to get out with only a head wound. get this though. not one of his airbags went off. he had to have hit hard to roll an eclipse three times. no side curtain airbag deployment or nuthin.

he is ok and will be home today hopefully, just a reminder to wear your seatbelt and that sportscars are made for CLEAN pavement. i hit a ditch once because of gravel.

...and responsible drivers. </font>[/QUOTE]definitely. once i hit my ditch and saw some things in the fire dept. i immediately became more responsible with my driving. yes i screw around alot and pull ebrakes, but i go to huge vacant areas. i know it doesnt sound responsible to do stuff like that at all, but i would consider myself responsible. i dont street race, or do anything at high speeds anymore. its too stupid and not worth it whatsoever. that last thing i want to do is kill a family of little kids, you know....

he wasn't wearing his seat belt? that is just stupid. you should always make sure to have it one, weather it be a 2 hour trip or a simple spin around the block.

glad to hear that he will be ok. let that be a leason!

Are air bags supposed to go off when you roll? Seems to me if you hit slid ground sideways and start rolling, the airbag would just slam you backward/sideways and do more harm than good.

Why was he passing someone in a construction zone? I am sorry it happened to him but that doesn't sound very smart.

Conventional airbags only deploy when hit dead on front or back. But with side impact airbags, you'd think they would go off.

yeah, he was in a hurry to get to school, i know it was stupid of him to do that but i think he knows it after surgery, 19,000 car totaled and a few hundred bucks lost in accesories so im not saying a word. when i hit the ditch, i heard it from alot of people. "your irresponsible", "that was stupid", "what were you thinking" im being how a friend should be and encouraging and helping him the best i can. i remember when people i knew told me those things. i became really bitter toward them. i thought to myself, "no crap it was stupid and i have a few thousand dollars of damage to help me realize how stupid it was," then they just lay it on thick like they are perfect and wouldnt have wrecked in that situation.

not saying anything too against your post and by all means speak your mind, thats what this lounge forum is for,.. he knows he did something he shouldnt and regrets it

just hearing stuff like "let that be a lesson" or "should have known better" seems ignorant after the lose he is realizing. not trying to flame you, just please see where im coming from.

stuff like " i hope he learns from this" is cool

but things easily come accross as "you fricken idiot, what the hell'd you do that for"

anyway, looked at the wound today and it aint pretty. he's got like 20 staples above his forehead.

about the airbag thing, im thinking the side impact from the tires wouldnt set them off, but not sure about the side curtain airbags though

saw the car yesterday. the side airbag went off on the passenger side(the side that hit first as it rolled)

the windshield caved in and hit his head so hard that even though the windshield is still together, blood was all over the outside of the windshield.

funny thing was that he is kinda worried daily if he scratches his watch. he said he feels weird because after rolling his car, his first reaction was to see if his watch was scratched.

does anyone know how it goes for him getting a new car? we're not sure how this process works, do they give him a check for the price his car was worth and he pick out the same car, or does he get just the money and he picks out his choice??

side curtains are to prevent you from falling through the windows. especially in a roll situation. at least thats what i think.... i could be wrong though.

20 staples? that doesnt sound to pleasant.

                          any pictures of the car?

I'm sure that experience will do wonders for his judgment. It's good that he's ok. One of my best friends rolled his car once and didn't get a scratch.

Even though the side airbags didn't deploy I think it speaks wonders for the safety of that car that he rolled it several times and was OK for the most part, in many vehicles that would kill you.
