• Opinions on new cars UPDATED!!!!!

I think I want an SUV - I always need to carry people or a lot of stuff around.

I have test driven a really nice Grand Cherokee - Ive had a lot of friends who had good experiences w/ these. Right now I think this is at the top of my list.

My friend happens to be selling his manual, super charged, electric blue Xterra with a sweet JL audio 2x12 1000w sub system and pioneer GPS system, 35k miles. $17k

Ive toyed with the idea of a trailblazer, Envoy, Explorer. you get the picture.

My family is in love with Acuras though. We really like the acura dealership and service department and theyve really treated us well over the years.
My mom wants me to get a RSX (I think so she can drive it sometimes). Im not totally opposed to it... and I'd seriously consider a CL-S
The only way I'd buy an Acura is if it were from this dealer and certified used (100k bumper to bumper). Unfortunately the lot doesnt have any Type S's RSX or CL on the lot right now and Im in a time crunch. Im on a few day break but on Wednesday I NEED a car and NEED to be very mobile up in PA (mobile/flexible as possible through Nov 2... after that Im sleeping and struggling through the rest of my classes as best I can...)

I really dont care if the car is fast - Ive given up on caring about muscle cars or their little slow spin off cousins. I like them, I appreciate them, maybe one day I'll buy another one.

Let me emphasize, I will not be buying a fbody, mustang, or any sports car or sports coupe(except maybe the RSX)

Price needs to be under 20k bucks
I need it to be super reliable and have less than 35k miles.

I'm open to suggestions!

I don't know about the East coast, but premium is $2.76 a gallon right now.

With that in mind, I would go check out the honda dealership Ultra reliable and great mileage.

Also, if you don't mind looking fruity, I bet you can find a used RAV-4 too. It's like a baby SUV.

I've kinda always liked the Envoys, but the price tag always brings me back to reality. Whatever you do, stay away from the huge SUVs. RAV-4's are fruity though... :D

I dig the trailblazers... What are Buick Raniers priced at? I drove one at autoshow in motion, and it was a really nice truck and buicks seem to be in the ****ter when it comes to price.

I also always had a soft spot for the durango.

2.07 Reg 2.30 Premium a state away from him...

I'd go with the Xterra. I didn't even know they made them with the stick option. Since you know the guy who owned it before you should have a good idea how it was driven.

So, it MUST be an SUV?

My brother is picking up some mini ford SUV thing. I don't remember the name off hand but..... 4 cyl, decent power.... right around $20,000 brand new I think....

Cars that are AWD/ FWD are out of the question?

Ford Escape right?

Id go for a Grand Cherokee, very nice SUVs... From my own experience, and 3 of my friends, the 4.0L just lasts forever on them things... Just be prepared for 19 mpg highway gas mileage though.

My Parents own a Ford Escape. It's nothing huge, but it still drives decently along with some cargo room. They got it because it was comfortable, and not one of the huge giant SUV's. I've driven it on quite a few occasions and must say that I have no complaints about it. It serves it's purpose very well.

Sad to see your leaving the Fbody scene. But if you must, go with Jeep. Cherokees are the ****.

Used 96+ Toyota 4Runner.

My dad has one, gave it to my mom. It has 136,000 miles on it, he bought it new, and literally he barely changed the oil in it, and the thing still runs like a champ.

Ok, heres teh deal.

I test drove the v6 Accord coupe '03 today... SWEEEEEET car
02 S60 Volvo
04 S40 Volvo
02 RSX
02 Land Rover Freelander
00 Land Rover Discovery II
01 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited

RSX and S40 got crossed out right away for being too small.
The S60 was too yuppy woman car
The Jeep had something up w/ the engine

It in the end came down to the new style Accord Coupe and the 2 Land Rovers
I decided no on the coupe b/c of no Traction control and not enough space

So that left the Freelander and the Discovery... I have to pick one tomorrow... and I havent decided yet.

I love the Discovery b/c of its size and comfort however the size is a daunting thing.

I live in a semi-urban area at school and have to parallel park and navigate streets w/ cars on both sides...

The Freelander is smaller - less features, less space but the back window slides down and thats pretty cool. No leather and is very comfortable just not as comfortable.

The miles are the same.

It all comes down to if I want to be putting premium gas into a v8 which gets ever so slightly worse gas milage than the v6 in the freelander which takes regular.

And if I can handle the bigger sized car - but the smaller one is much smaller and Im a big guy (6'4")

The size is daunting? No way... Id say thats one of the smaller SUVs heh. And when it comes to parallel parking, no problem, even in such a "Large" one as you say. Its very easy to judge the front and rear of the truck because its flat. Much easier than our cars...

I just looked at a Discovery about 30 min ago, heh. 16 mpg, ouch. Go for the discovery, the freelander is ugly...
