Don't let Shops Use a Impact gun to Tighten your Lugnuts
Duh!!!!!!!!!!!

edit:

If my lugnuts were so tight it took a 12" 1/2 drive rachet and a cheater bar loosen them up, over twice the recomended torque
It's going to take more torque to loosen than tighten.

I was suprised that when I got new tires put on my truck like two years ago at Costco the guy used a torque wrench to tighten each lugnut by hand. I've never seen that done anywhere before.

The torque doesn't actually press the wheel onto the rotor any harder...the rotor metal doesn't compress under that kind of condtion. Only the lug nuts and the stud. The torque stretches the threads on the stud so that the lug nuts stays in place therefore keeping the wheel on. The rotor can be ground down and still be ok...the caliper can move 1/4" or so and still be on the rotor....the pad will always touch the rotor, thats how it's designed.
