  • Ls1 or LS2?

In the next couple months I will be paying cash for a new car. I have picked the GTO but I'm not sure which year to get. 2004 or 2005?

The 2004 has the LS1 with 350hp that has performance and OEM parts all over the US. I can get it for a great price as they make room for the 2005's and spend what I save on rims, ground fx, electric cutouts....

The 2005 has the LS2 with 400hp that I'm told is different then the LS1 and will not except the same parts (roots supercharger, Heads).

So what are the differences between the two engines and what do you think I should do?

Also does anyone have the REAL pic of the 2005 GTO? I have seen so many photo-shopped pics I don't even know whats real lol.

    Thanks

Well with performance parts found in shops all over town I can get well over 400hp on the LS1 and ram air hoods are out there for sale.

As for the body kit I don't know. Some pics have it and some don't. I just wish GM would post the damn pics already.

Im pretty sure that within 3-4 months after the Ls2 hits the streets that the aftermarket parts will be very abundant. There is too big of a market for those parts to stay open for too long

The LS2 is really too early to base judgement off of it. Gotta wait till some aftermarket appears to see what's going to be the parts to exploit. It's already running a pretty high compression if I remember correctly (too lazy to dig up the spec sheet).

Then again, it'd be nice to own some new GM technology. However, remember the problems the LS1 encountered early on. Let's hope the LS2 doesn't struggle through the early years.

I think if you get a 2004, it will be one of the ones nobody wanted to buy (of course, which is why its still there) and you know the thing is going to have a couple hundred of HARD DRIVEN miles on it.. I don't know if you want to buy a used 2004 car lol.

I think they are dynoing at about 350-360rwhp. You wouldn't really need an aftermarket quite yet.
