• So I just messed up my girlfriend's car

Me being the nice guy that I am, I offered to change out my girlfriend's tires to the new snow tires she bought from tirerack.com.

To make a long story short, I broke off a lug stud from both front wheels each. The threads were stripped on the one lug on the first front tire. Wasn't much I could do but keep trying to get it off until the lug broke. I got one of the rear tires off and on without too much trouble. The lug nuts on the other front tire wouldn't budge, and when I finally wrenched hard on one of them the stud broke right off. I said, "**** it", and quit right there.

I contribute it to the fact that the car's previous owner never had the tires rotated. So the tires haven't been removed in quite a long time, and some were rusted. Now I've got to take it to a mechanic in the morning, get the studs replaced and the other tires put on.

    Replacing lugs are very easy.

Just knock out the broken one and put in the new one.

A couple of bucks at the most at your local automotive parts store.

Well, I'm not sure if I'll have the time or energy to finish it all up before she needs her car.

I'd probably end up breaking off another, which would piss me off more than I am now. If the mechanic breaks it, he'll have to deal with it. She needs to get an alignment (a reason for the new tires) so it'll have to go to a tire/suspension place anyways.

I've always been told our rear lugs were not replaceable.

yeah, when i changed my tires a few weeks ago, a broke two of the DF and one off the PF. cost me like a dollar or something a stud from autozone and replaced them no problem. i did use a air hammer which made it a 5min job :D

besides, the girl with be impressed if you fix the problem yourself ;)

Since we've never taken the wheels off since she bought it 4 months ago, I would say some hillbilly mechanic that got a little too happy with an air wrench.

After two years I don't need to impress her anymore.

After rewiring parts of the house, fixing crap, and installing outdoor lighting in the two months that we've lived here, I think she'll be okay with me not changing her tires ;)

                        Goddamn ***** **** **** ***

So I'm thinking since you guys say its so easy I'll go ahead and try to do it myself. NO, it looks like I have to take off the hub nut and everything just to get the rotor off. It's like 2", no way I'm getting it off.

Doesn't sound like a hillbilly mechanic too me, sounds like a rookie or a guy who was in too much of a hurry to start the thread by hand and used the impact gun to start the thread and tighten it

Drill out the center of what? the stud? I can't even get the freaking rotor off, much less punch the stud out

The rest of the studs on that wheel have lots of rust and are going to need to be changed.

If took me five minutes to get the remaining rear wheel off and new wheel on. The threads were clean, and the nuts looked a lot newer than the rest of them. That's what I was expecting when I started this job, but no, the other ****ers had to break off :(
