  • MY Mud Report (383 Project Scrapped)

As I told you in Steve's Mud Report, I've scrapped the 383 project in my '79.

In fact, Ive given up on it all together. It's been nickel & dime-ing me to death since day 1. 3 years of patience and persistance with it finally payed off, so it's up for sale, and for cheap.

    I found my dream truck

    And bought it.

    I take that back

I stole it. The price I got on it still has me in shock. I'll tell you in a minute.

It's a 1981 Chevy Shortbox, with 12" of suspension lift and 3" of body lift sitting on 38" Super Swamper TSL-SX Tires mounted on 16.5", 8-lug chrome wheels. It has a Limited Slip Full Floating 14 bolt rear axle and a Dana 60 front axle.

It has a newly rebuilt Turbo 400 Trans mated to a newly rebuilt NP205 transfer case. It is running custom CV's and driveshafts. Powering all of that is a Fuel Injected 383 Stroker with less than 1,000 miles on it.

Moving inside you'll find 2 racing bucket seats and 5 point harnesses.

This truck has easilly $10k in mods already done, all done by a guy who owns a repair shop during the day and builds race cars in his spare time.

He didn't have it for sale but my brother, who delivers parts to his shop saw it and started asking him about it. He said that he's not selling it but would let it go for $5,000 to him and him only.

Since my brother didn't have the $, he called me, and I bought it sight-unseen based on his and my dad's overview of it. I talked to the guy selling it, and it he wanted the Super Swampers off my '79 to use on another one of his projects, and I offered him $4500 + the swampers and he took it. The reason I didn't post sooner is because the truck & title weren't in our possession until today. I asked him why he was selling it for so cheap, and he said that he has a ton of project vehicles and this was his least favorite, so he let it go to someone who wanted it.

I'm driving down to pick it up this weekend and towing it back.

I now own my dream truck.

Looks pretty good. Bet that thing has some massive lift blocks in the rear of it. I'd invest in a crossover steering with that much lift though.
